YIGO, Guam (Aug. 7, 2017) Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, commander of Joint Region Marianas, sits at a mission crew work station during a tour of a P-8A Poseidon aircraft assigned to Patrol Squadron (VP) 26. Chatfield spoke with crew members of VP-26 and learned about the capabilities of the P-8A Poseidon aircraft participating in GUAMEX. The multinational anti-submarine warfare exercise conducted in the waters surrounding Guam. Participants include aircraft and subsurface assets from the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and the U.S. Navy. IWAKUNI, Japan (Aug. 9, 2017) E-2D Advanced Hawkeye early warning and attack aircraft assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 125 taxi the flight line upon their return to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. VAW-125 was deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5. The aircraft is the latest variant of the long-running E-2 Hawkeye series of aircraft, which employs long-range radar and electronic communications capabilities to oversee the battlespace and detect threats beyond the sensor range of other friendly units. PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 8, 2017) Sailors and Marines secure ordnance on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). Theodore Roosevelt is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with its carrier strike group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests a carrier strike group's mission-readiness and ability to perform as an integrated unit through simulated real-world scenarios.
