Showing off new hardware here. The growler on top (EA-18G, then the P-8A Poseidon, and then the F-35C.

Those new aircraft will be around for a long time...and our grand kids will see them as adults when something new starts replacing them.

These will ultimately replace the 16 Kaiser class oilers the US Navy has.

But, with several of them, particularly the 1st few that this administration is naming, I can tell you I am getting sick of the "activists" who are receiving these names.

USS and USNS names should go to people who were or are loyal, and patriotic supporters of the US Navy and US Military, not perverted LGBT activists who had nothing to do with or any affinity for the US Navy.

But that is just my own thoughts. I feel a good, squared away vessel is US Navy service deserves a fitting name to match what we are asking of it and its crew.

I agree with what Jeff posted. The ship pictured above is named for Gabrielle Giffords. Who had the extreme misfortune of being shot and disabled for life by a gun wielding person full of hate. This incident in my and others opinion does not make her a candidate to have a combatant ship named after her.

When ships are named after people that person should have had served in an exemplary manner with the US military. Preferably the USN or USMC. And yes I know Gabrielle Giffords husband was an astronaut and is a retired US Navy Captain.

Just my opinion.

Late of several month as planned and during several weeks no US CVN in the Persian Gulf

USS George H.W. Bush completes COMPTUEX

Sailors aboard the U.S. Navy’s Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush came one step closer to deployment by completing their composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) on December 21.

The 3-week-long assessment tested the ship’s ability to collaborate with other ships in the strike group based on real-world situations. GHWBCSG conducted various exercises and completed evaluations to certify the CSG for deployment.

“COMPTUEX provides the entire strike group the opportunity to stress our systems and test our tactics and teamwork in combat scenarios before actually entering combat,” said Capt. William Pennington, commanding officer of USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). “I was extremely impressed with the way our Sailors and our embarked teammates handled themselves under some very dynamic and challenging situations.”

The exercise tested and evaluated GHWBCSG units through complex, scenario-based training exercises.

“Each evolution mimicked potential real-world engagement,” said Pennington. “Carrier strike group (CSG) 4 threw the kitchen sink at us and the confidence we gained in our systems, tactics, and teamwork will serve us well on deployment.”

With COMPTUEX complete, GHWB and the rest of the George H.W. Bush carrier strike group (GHWBCSG) are mission-ready and set to deploy early next year.

The GHWBCSG is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush; staffs of carrier strike group 2, carrier air wing 8 and its squadrons; Destroyer squadron 22 staff and its destroyers; and guided-missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea and USS Hue City.
