There were six carriers involved,. But I believe at least one of them was in the Med...maybe two. I will have to look back.25 year ago Operation Desert Storm begin with 6 US aircraft carriers and ~ 500 aircrafts in action ! the more big deployment* since WWII exist a pic with 4 together.
The four carrier battle groups operating in the Persian Gulf, together with the two additional battle groups in the Red Sea, complemented the striking power of land-based coalition air forces in Saudi Arabia and other coalition Gulf states, and the USAF units in eastern Turkey. This effectively surrounded Iraq with strike and demonstrated the mobility, flexibility and firepower which naval forces bring to the battlefield.
