Also anyone ever thought of the viability of dredging as a solution?

China hardly wants for food security either, if this is an issue to consider.

As according to this UN report China maintains a 95% level of self-sufficient agriculture.

Since you mention it - Food Security is EVERY country's concern. China may seen in a little bit better condition compare to other 3rd world countries, but nothing is THAT secure when Chinese farmers uses American patented seeds, for pretty much everything.

Not bash here, but fairly saying, American agricultural powerhouse corporates (no need to mention names I think?) controls Chinese market, that's a FACT rather than accuse. - Not THAT secure if you ask.

Baguwen summary of what OTHER risks can be found here:

Here's a fantastic, and rather long, study of the TGD and its relationship and inspiration originating from American projects.

Also here's another pro-dam resources that actually offer actual solutions to these problems other than blowing up dams.

I think having those priceless heritage artifacts submerged underwater could serve as a deterrence against tomb robbers or artifact thieves from robbing it.

Honestly, with 5000 years of history, it's rather impossible to do any large scale projects without affecting some priceless artifact or historical site. Especially not when the project is centered on the Yang-Tze River, one of the founding sites of Chinese civilization.

I am glad, however, that China is willing to make these sacrifices in order to move forward. History is important, but it should always be a guide to moving forward, never an impediment.

I notised this odd thing. Why do some posters (not specifically directing at Player 0) spell the word "too" as "to". One single alphabet changes the whole meaning of the sentence and causes a lot of exasperation for the reader!

Do you text much?

And why do some people like to use "S" as in notised, instead of "C" as in "noticed";)

I agreed, but as far as those submerged artifacts, I read somewhere that China built an underwater museum for visitors to see them when the Three Gorges Dam was completed. Now to me that's great, because not only will it preserve the historical findings but will not impede progress.

Here's another very interesting text published by CSIRO and written by Chinese academics, it shows both progress being made and that the Chinese take this issue very seriously and seek to resolve it through technological solutions to compensate.

We need to keep this thread going as this is a major issue for China's development both for critics and defenders.
