Now i'm curious what's hidden inside the salt mine, other than trapped Ukrainian troops.

The Soledar mine if secured may also provide haven for Russian attempt to defend the position. Tho still unless there are underground passage to the mine, defending Soledar for Russia will present similar problem as Ukraine.

They can donate the Patriot, but it may not be deployed right now in Ukraine, it could in theory be used as a training unit for Ukrainian officers until they complete Operation and Maintenance training on a Patriot. It is reported by Politico that the Ukrainians will be trained at a base in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, which according to sources is an appropriate base for training because most of the instructors and many simulators are based there.

for the first time that Ukrainian troops will be trained inside the Untied States, as part of a program which starts as soon as next week.
The officials identified that it will take place at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, home to the Army's field artillery school, and the training is expected to take "several months".

Given the complexity of the Patriot batteries, which requires about 100 personnel to operate everything from its computers to radar controls to its engagement control station, the timeline commonly offered for a crew to be properly trained is at least six months to a year.

US officials are not giving a precise timeline at this point. Ukraine has been desperate to secure more advanced anti-air systems to protect against the devastating waves of Russian aerial assaults on its energy grid.

Soon after the White House confirmed that Ukraine would get Patriots, Russia said it had been assured by Washington that US or NATO personnel would not man them. It appeared an attempt by both sides to ensure there would be no direct clash among the nuclear-armed superpowers over the Patriots, despite Moscow's vehement condemnation of the new weapons.

Previously, Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said that among training options for the Ukrainians would "include potential training here in the US, overseas, or a combination of both."

The Patriot missiles could be a game-changer in terms of Ukraine's defense of its cities, given they have a maximum range of some 100 miles and are capable of downing ballistic missiles. Zelensky has long demanded that the US and NATO help "close the skies" over Ukraine.

Moscow will likely as a result unleash more intense and escalatory airstrikes on Ukrainian cities and command and control bases in the interim, given the clock is ticking before the more effective Patriots get deployed.

Some observers have also underscored that Patriot delivery confirms we are about to witness a very prolonged war - and yet the Biden administration

It will take time... if they do a rush training they could have it fielded not before june, if they want operators that know what they are doing. Didn't see the hawk systems on the field that was supposed to be sent either, did someone got a glimpse of them? Until then, the sky will be slowly safer day after day for the Russian bombers.

For these low flying kalibr and geran drones, more Flakpanzer Gepard ,Shilka or even M163 VADS based on m113 would be helpful for point defence in the west of Ukraine.

All indications point to what I have said the US is planning to do. Drag this war for years and years

Sending the Patriot system and saying that it could take up to a year to train the Ukrainian personnel is a very clear signal of their intentions

And if they can send one today, then can send 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 later on. So yeah, that's going to be a long war

Destroyed or captured Patriot batteries would devastate their morale. Same with Bradleys.

Even if Ukraine's air defences improve, so will Russia's offensive capability. Over the last few months we've seen a massive increase in the number of KUB & lancet strikes, contrast that to the start of the war there was none. I think the Russians will continue the path of evolving cheaper, easier to mass produce drones.

The patriot is a solution to a problem the Ukrainians don't have. Their existing air defences are doing enough of a job to keep out VVS. If strategic bombers were flying over Kiev then they would make sense.

Unless the American plan is to use billion dollar air defence platforms to take out thousand dollar drones.

Intel Slava Z:

Units of PMC "Wagner" closed the boiler in the area of the Soledar outpatient clinic north of Salt Mine No. 4 and began to clean up the city.

The local administration (Soledar City Council) is already under the control of the musicians.

The exit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Soledar is completely blocked. All routes of movement of vehicles under the fire control of the Wagner Group and units of the RF Armed Forces. Aviation will work at night, our MLRS and TOS-1A are working right now. According to some reports, up to 300-400 enemy soldiers and officers could remain in the urban areas of Soledar, who did not have time to withdraw and fell into a boiler.

Ivan Filiponenko, official representative of People's Militia of LPR says the Ukrainians screwed the Poles in Soledar:

That is interesting, that the design didn't work out for them.

Type 08 which serves roughly the same purpose in equipping the mobile light combined divisions in China won high acclaim and according to some sources were also highly effective at defeating Russian formations during joint exercises.

I'm surprised they will be retired as I assumed their firepower and speed made them one of the better tools in the American arsenal.
It is much lighter than type 08 therefor less protected. It is the product of an era that also produced Zumwalt and LCS. The era based on the idea of "end of history, no equal enemy to US, US military is becoming police."
