I Initiate this thread because the Doklam thread has been locked I think there are all kind of important news about china's relation with neighboring country But lack of appropriate thread to put it
Iron Man post on Mongolia separation from China is interesting. I just have faint idea as to why Mongolia separate from China

At one time they have gathering of all mongolian tribe to decide whether to separate from China or not It come to deadlock But 8 Banner or tribe decide to declare independent Wiki article about Mongolian independent is certain very bias most likely written by a westerner that blame everything and anything of clumsy policy of Qing Dynasty. I strongly believe Russia has a hand in this plot to separate Mongolia

But fast forward Mongolia is now in misery and most likely condemn to poverty and long misery. With only 3 million population it is to small to industrialize and with land locked and no access to sea it is hard to trade
Mineral is their only hope but it is subject o fluctuation in the world market and the Anti China policy does not help The west and Japan applaud their anti China bend but does not put money where their mouth is
NHK produce this excellent report about the misery in MOngolia. I feel bad for them their only hope is to become slave of South Korea

The nation of PRC is 100 years old more or less. China's earliest archeological history dates at most 4000 to 5000 years. The 5000 years old stuff show it wasn't a united country. It didn't have the concept of nation then and were a collection of kingdoms. 9000 years? Come on.

Just during China's last 3000 years of history its kingdoms have expanded and waged war on neighbours both in defense and in efforts to conquer. It just seems less prevalent because the history is a long one and there weren't that many expansions but they exist. Also the fact that China considered itself the divinely "selected" ones (like so many others do) and is the centre of all under heaven. What were considered "lower" civilisations and tribes in the regions were unharmed but treated like tributary states and other "advanced" civilisations (with language, statecraft, organisation, technology etc) were regarded as clever but unwise and basically more learned barbarians (as many other cultures did too).

The current struggle between China and the US has happened in the past and the same patterns of propaganda have played out. The US doesn't want to lose uncontested dominance over every sphere. That's understandable. American propaganda was therefore predictable and Chinese leaders would have seen it coming from decades away.

I don't think that is the case. There are many reason why China turn against Vietnam one of the biggest cause is Cambodia where the Vietnamese army was ensconced in HO Chi Min trail that run thru Cambodia. And they have dispute because the Cambodian was harassing Vietnamese settler along the border. In reprisal the Vietnamese attack and occupied large chunk of Cambodia which endanger Cambodia independence and could result in Cambodia becoming protectorate of Vietnam. Meantime Le Duc To take control of Communist party in Vietnam and he is very much anti Chinese. By prosecuting thousand of Chinese Vietnamese and driven them from Vietnam many fleeing to Guangxi and the rest become "Boat People"

The other thing Vietnam sided with Soviet Union in dispute over communist ideology split angering China

I don't believe China did the bidding of US It is classic relation between middle kingdom and vassal state Vietnam where China play the arbiter of all those small countries in SEA ensuring that Vietnam does not become hegemon in SEA .

The conflict last along time but Vietnam just does not have the economic or military where withal to antagonize China. Thing got worse when after the fall of Soviet Union suddenly Vietnam left dry and no one to turn to. So they sue for peace by withdrawing from Cambodia

Yeah and The US couldn't even beat Vietnam in a war and they want to go to war with China ( a close ally of Russia ) I think the US should wake up and realise there time is up ..If you look at China and the US GDP but also take into account each coutries deficits and how much debt there in , then we can all see China is now the number 1 economy by a country mile !

Ok I moved the discussion here Some people said this

Singapore only licks Western bumholes because during the Cold War post-WW2 era, US was the money center, and China was poor backwards nation.
When China becomes the money center, Singapore will be competing to lick Chinese bumholes alongside Korean and Japanese and Vietnamese, just like antiquity.

These nations only know and respect one thing: Money and Power. China had none of that back in the day, but just you wait bro. Just you wait.

This is the most stupid post I ever see coming from the mouth of ignorant ultra nationalist. Go get the book and read History Here it is I volunteered to teach you history. During the darkest hour of Chinese history period from 1950 to 1960 when the west subjected China to the most severe Economic embargo, Overseas Chinese money keep China afloat and able to pay for import Reference Phd dissertation. And yet you have the gall to say :"Singapore only licks Western bumholes because during the Cold War post-WW2 era, US was the money center, and China was poor backwards nation."

Prof Remer analyze the discrepancy between Chinese silver export and Chinese deficit in import
In analyzing this paradox in China’s international balance of payments, C.F. Remer, a professor at the Uni-versity of Michigan and an associate of the Institute of Pacific Relations, con-cluded that remittances from overseas Chinese contributed the most to pay for China’s imports (Remer 1933, 149–50). Remer’s view was shared by foreign-ers such as H.B. Morse, the secretary of the statistical bureau at the Chinese Maritime Customs, Japanese bankers, and Chinese government officials and scholars.3 Recent scholarship also agrees with the widely held contemporary view that the money sent by Chinese living abroad was crucial to the Chinese economy (Chen 1996, 8–20; Hamashita 1989, 139–153).The overseas Chinese remittances were not occasional but, rather, a stable flow of money sent by masses of workers and merchants, so the channels for their cross-border financial transactions merit special attention.

Despite China’s changing international environment, the one constant in Beijing’s overseas Chinese policy was the need to attract foreign exchange from the overseas Chinese. Remittances played an important role from 1949 to 1977. Throughout Mao’s reign, overseas Chinese generously sent remittances to their families, friends and home villages. From 1950 to 1975 an estimated total of US$4.6 billion was sent to China (See Table 2). During certain periods, remittances declined due to leftist domestic policies because monies sent would do little to benefit the domestic overseas Chinese. For instance, the Great Leap Forward leftist policies discouraged overseas Chinese from giving, and so remittances averaged only US$90 million a year. Remittance numbers also plummeted during the Cultural Revolution. The average yearly remittances during this period were US$252 million. Although the average yearly remittances from 1966- 1975 averaged US$252 million, this masked the fact that for the first three years remittances fell due to the Cultural Revolution and then steadily rose in the following years. Furthermore, the rise in the following seven years was probably due in part to newly established diplomatic and economic relations with the West

Obviously, because the US built that system when its power was unopposable and China was an insect. The power dynamic is shifting far away from that now and any Asian with an average or above IQ from any country should see that Asia's only chance for honor in the world is with China.

China does not endear her self to the heart and mind of Overseas Chinese because Chinese failure to show empathy, solidarity, kinship to overseas Chinese.

Disagree. China educates and reaches out with its media to overseas Chinese all the time. I grew up watching these programs in NYC with my parents.

Showing solidarity mean "you were there when the chip is down" and it is ridiculous to assert that making film about overseas Chinese is that act. China fail to show that during May 1998 be man enough to admit it. You can hide behind the façade of "non interference" etc. But that is not the only thing that disappoint overseas Chinese. There are more I am glad you mention "Honor'. It is one of the most virtue in Chinese culture. People die for it
Now let go back in modern time after reform and opening up

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, this tech-led industrial park saw substantial growth in its foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow – the actual utilization of FDI in the park reached a record high of US$1.97 billion in 2020, up by 100.6 percent compared with 2019; registered FDI reached US$3.52 billion, up by 81.4 percent year-on-year, according to the

What makes Suzhou Industrial Park an attractive destination for foreign investors?

Suzhou Industrial Park was established in 1994 as a cooperative project between the governments of China and Singapore. As Suzhou’s largest industrial park, it covers a total jurisdiction area of 278 square kilometers (including the China-Singapore Cooperative Zone of 80 square kilometers).

It is located around Jinji Lake, a small fresh-water lake in eastern Suzhou, and is around six kilometers from the city center. The Suzhou area of Jiangsu

It was meant to be joint venture with 50-50 participation of both Countries but the implementation of project is left to local government . I am not saying that all official act in this manner or maybe unfamiliarity with normal business etiquette is lacking in Jiangsu official but what happened was the official set up the same kind of industrial park just across the road and start to impede, foot dragging power and other supporting facilities to the joint venture . In effect competing with he joint venture and using under cutting it to win over the competition. finally in exasperation Spore sold their share to the provincial government in effect say go get it

Singapore Industrial Park Flounders : A Deal Sours in China

By Michael Richardson, International Herald Tribune
  • Oct. 1, 1999
It seemed like a fine idea when Singapore agreed with China in 1994 to build a giant $30 billion industrial park in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou to serve as a model for attracting foreign investment to the world's most populous nation.
Five years later, the venture is heavily in debt — undermined by local officials who set up a rival park close by, forcing Singapore to cut its interests in the original project, Singapore officials say.
Singapore's senior minister, Lee Kuan Yew — who played a leading role in the effort to replicate the island-state's capitalist-style efficiency in the industrial heartland of China — conceded this week that the project had not turned out as planned and had made him more cautious about investments in China.

He pointed to the difficulties that arose in signing agreements with the central government that were then implemented by local officials who "have their own imperatives."
The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, which was intended eventually to become a self-contained manufacturing, urban and high-technology center covering 70 square kilometers (27 square miles), was a joint project with the Chinese central government in Beijing. But it ran into trouble when local officials began a rival operation, the Suzhou New District industrial park.

Mr. Lee said the city government was "using us to get investors in, and when investors came in, they said: 'You come to my park, it's cheaper."'
The Singaporean chief executive officer of the China-Singapore park said recently that the park had lost an average of $23.5 million a year since 1994 and that its loss would reach $90 million by the end of 2000
The project was supposed to transfer Singapore's management skills to Chinese bureaucrats and to teach China how to build and run "business-friendly" commercial parks.
But it ended up straining the close relations between Singapore and China and bringing home to Singaporeans the often unpredictable, and sometimes underhand, business culture of the Communist mainland.

In June, after it failed to persuade Suzhou officials to throw their weight behind the Singapore-built park, Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding with the government in Beijing under which the majority stake and management control over the park would be transferred from the Singaporean to the Chinese side Jan. 1, 2001.

Now that China is wealthy it is about time China implement ECC (Ethnic Chinese Card) It was proposed by overseas Chinese representative in National congress but China only implement it halfway with ethnic Chinese visa . Yes overseas Chinese has representation in national congress to help less fortunate overseas Chinese in Myanmar, and any other SEA countries in time of need that can happened due to pandemic, pogrom etc. Here is heart breaking story. Daniel I post it here your post about ECC. Overseas Chinese was instrumental in China's early reform about time China pay back those generosity. ECC is not full fledge Chinese citizen there is still limitation like they can't hold office. But they can open bank account, driver license, access to health care, school and pay taxes. Here I guote Daniel.

In addition, they would not be able to serve in state organs or hold certain positions in state-owned enterprises. So the ECC only entitles its holders to specific advantages within the Nationality Law for Chinese foreign nationals whose skill sets are under demand. It would not equate to the acquisition of Chinese nationality. Not all Chinese foreign nationals would be able to get the card, although it would be easier to obtain than the Chinese green card. There are certain requirements to obtain a green card. For example, the applicant must have a talent in a specific field, have special skills necessary for developing the economy and society, or be willing to make large investments in China

Chinese Myanmarese make emotional appeal begging not to be sent back to Myanmar amid the fresh covid ourbreak in the Chinese boder town with Myanmar

Ruili town is the first town in China which the Delta variant hit, many blame the Myammarese and believe it was brought in to China by them. Now the govenment issued a new policy that all Myammarese will be repatriated back to Myamar, Some Myanmarese girls of Chinese origin beg on the Chinese social media not to send them back.

They say they are also Chinese, they never think they belong to Myanmar, their ancestors always dream that they can one day come back to China where their roots are.

Sending them back to Myanmar is like killing them, they claimed, now many of them don't even have any family back in Myanmar, and the country now is overwhelmed with covid, if they went back to Myanmar, they'll have no jobs, no medicare, no income and probably will get covid and die, they beg the Chinese government to allow them to stay, they promise that they will never cause any trouble for China and strictly follow China's anti pandemic rules.

In the end they made an emotional plea again, ‘’ Please allow us to stay, cause we are Chinese, we are also the descendants of Yang and Huang.

I think China Govt need to put in motion of "Ethnic Chinese Card" (ECC) to prevent this happening. Especially for Chinese ethnic from unstable country, like Myanmar.

So we can differentiate between Myanmarese Citizens from other ethnic with Myanmarese Citizens from Chinese Ethnic.

Several years ago, Representative of Overseas Chinese in NPC (National People Congress). Yes maybe not many know, that Overseas Chinese have seat in Chinese Govt.

They propose Ethnic Chinese Card (ECC) System, but China Govt still put that in hold.
Hopefully, with this kind of event and also rising prosperity of China. China Govt can put this Ethnic Chinese Card (ECC) System on motion

1. What is the Ethnic Chinese Card?
The ECC is a special identity certificate for Chinese with foreign nationality. The Card is similar to the Chinese green card, but easier to obtain. ECC holders would be able to enter and exit China without a visa, and stay for as long as they wished. They would also be entitled to the same rights as Chinese citizens in regards to the making of investments, the purchase of real estate, opening of bank accounts, ability to obtain a driver’s license and the ability to educate their children within the Chinese system. The ECC is equivalent to the Chinese green card for Chinese with foreign nationality.

2. What will the ECC mean for ethnic Chinese?
The ECC will impact ethnic Chinese in three main ways:

Firstly, on the formalities of entry and exit, and duration of stay. Many ethnic Chinese stay in China for long periods for the purposes of making investments, employment and family reunions. However, since they are foreigners, they need both a passport and visa (for example - working visa, reunion visa) for entry. They must apply for a residence permit and can only stay in China for a specified period. The ECC would allow ethnic Chinese to stay in China for as long as they wanted, even permanently, without a visa or residence permit.

Secondly, in regards to employment. Currently, Chinese foreign nationals must obtain permits (such as a work permit or a specialist permit) and apply to change or renew them when necessary. Failure to do so constitutes illegal employment. The ECC would entitle holders to legally work in China without a permit. This supersedes the rights of residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who need to obtain permits to legally work in China.

Thirdly, on the ease of living in China. Non-nationals are restricted in China in many ways. For example - in their ability to obtain medication, purchase property, make investments, open bank accounts, receive a Chinese education, obtain a driver’s license, and utilize transportation (for example, purchase a train ticket using their real name). Compared with Chinese citizens, there are many restrictions on foreigners in China. Under the ECC system, ethnic Chinese would enjoy equal treatment to Chinese citizens in almost everything except political rights.

Taking medical insurance as an example, foreigners are only entitled to insurance if they are employed and their employer pays social insurance for them. Otherwise, they are subject to high medical expenses in China. But ECC holders would be able to pay social insurance and obtain the same medical insurance treatment as Chinese citizens, regardless of whether or not they are employed in China
