That's the thing, that order of Borei and the bulava project has ruined Russian navy. They basically spent all of their funding on there and they are still not fully operational. And that's their strategic fleet, not their regular fleet.

Russian shipbuilding industry can still build kilos, talwar and corvette on time as I said, but they struggle with everything else. So, they can still build the select hardware from cold war era that received export orders in 90s and 2000s, but they are going over budget and time with every other major project they have. When they were building 956EM, they had a fire on the ship. And as we can see with PLAN, 956EM are basically white elephants. They are having so much trouble with lada and project 22350, that they have to order additional kilos and talwars, because those are the only ships they can build on time right now.

By what I've read thus far, the old Soviet big-ship building capability all concentrated at the Black Sea (Ukraine, that is), so with the breakup of USSR and economic turmoil in Ukraine, the ex-USSR Bloc capability to build stuff that's bigger than destroyer is essentially gone, right?

Whereas China is working its way up in this department, but still lack in-house compact engines, especially the turbine engine department, otherwise the 3230 could be even more capable...?

It talks about the new Type 726 class, spoken from the person that was made the captain of the boat.

It says that it launched on December of 2009 and left for Gulf of Aden in December 30th, 2010.

When Type 726 speeds from 998, it accelerates to 52 knots (I don't think this is the top speed, maybe the maximum cruise speed?)
It says that 80% of technology on this boat is new development, but it's very easy to use. It has much more capability than previous small hovercraft (Type 724).

It says the width of the Type 726 is only 1.8 m less than that of the width of the well deck.

The PLAN, with its Type 071 vessels (now for sure three of them and a fourth probably coming...my guess is that there will be more), is committed to its own LCAC. And from this description, it sounds like they are testing it out, that it is very capable...andmy guess is that they will build enough to outfit these vessels with them.

It's more like 0.9m of clearance on each side whenever the 3230 LCAC enter or exit the 071 LPD, don't know what'd it be in the case of USN? Still, that's pretty tight. Also, the writer said it is very hot and noisy at the cockpit, given the type of powerplant the LCAC uses guess that can't be helped.

i think China has pretty much become self sufficient in the naval programme, they probably even suprised themselves in some aspects, as late as 5 years they were still importing alot from Russia but the last few years has really proved that China has now the capability to produce what it likes when it likes, for example in the Type 054A programme China had probably planned only 12 x Type 054A judging by the products and kits they bought for them, they are

14 x AK-176M 76mm Naval Gun between 2008-2011 (for 12 Type 054A and 2 Type 071)
48 x MR-90/Front Dome fire control Radar between 2008-2011 again for 12 Type 054A
16 x Fregat/Top Plate Air search radar between 2008-2011
12 x Mineral/Band Stand Surface search radar between 2008-2011

they also got 90 x AK-630 30mm Naval gun for 2 x Type 054 and Fast attack crafts Type -022

all of the weapons were all used after the 12th Type 054A or around that numbers, we know more than 12 have been built which means the rest is made inside China by domestic suppliers

if PLAN has a requirment they can now get what they need without any trouble of buying from outside countrys, having the ability to produce weapons inside China has many benifits, im sure China has made its own engine for Type 056 Corvette also, the days of importing weapons on a large scale are over in my opinion
