When (not if) Russia refurbishes it's nuclear Kirov cruisers. It would represent a significant boost in their ability to project power and establish their Navy's control in whichever area of operations they're assigned to. I sure do hope that Russia manages to upgrade all four Kirov Cruisers. Kirov symbolizes the greatness of the Russian Navy as it once was. But to take it one step further, it would be delightful to witness a resurgent Russian Navy. Their resilience (Russian) is admirable and encouraging to witness. As with the Kirovs, would love to see the likes of Lider Class nuclear destroyers, Super Gorshkov destroyers, as well as Gorshkov frigates. Judging by the design of Steregushchiy, Buyan-Ms, Gorshkov, it's with a certain degree of confidence that I can say that when Russia brings out its destroyers and heavy frigates. They will be in a class of their own. With the Chinese having the spot light on them with their awesome pace in churning out destroyer after destroyer, frigate after frigate. It's only natural to have a keen expectation to see the Russians match their Chinese friends with their new ships. Looking forward to the times ahead. I have always been a great admirer of the Russians (not soviet, there is big difference).
I doubt 2 of the 4 Kirovs will be refurbished, as they're almost reaching 40 years old now.
That applies to most of the Russian fleet.
And I doubt that Russia has the finances to replace its destroyers, given what we're seeing with the Gorshkov frigate.
