Yazhou (6:35 - 9:00) was talking about how the PL-15E's actual permissible range depends on software installed inside the missile, not the actually hardware design/engineering limit. The permissible range allowed by the installed software depends on how close the client's diplomatic/strategic relationship is with China. Also, the 145km range advertised is likely very vague, subjective and dependent upon situation. In other words, should China permit Pakistan to use the full 200+km range via software update, Pakistan could do it. It is somewhat similar to the alleged 'kill switch' on the F-35 (bad comparison, sorry).

Therefore, if the alleged 190km kill shot were true, the version of PL-15E sold to Pakistan would indeed be very similar to those used by the PLAAF.

guys, tom cooper's report claims jf-17,not j-10c, shot down a rafale.

also his analysis of a jettisoned brahmos's caps suggested a su-30mki was in trouble from dodging a missile.
To be fair, he’s an idiot. Pakistani users filled social media with memes joking that two of our actors were shot down and he actually believed they were real pilots.

I've long stopped to see Cooper as someone to follow on aviation matters (to the... characterization above i might add insufferably arrogant as well), but assuming his version of events has any credence, indeed it's even worse, the mighty Rafale thrashed by the toy that is JF-17.

Well, Tom … I could tell you one or two more stories about him! o_O:confused: But well ..

What I however find „suspect“ are his latest ambitions to dig deep into the „Indian market“!

In addition to my very personal rejection of him as a person and my questioning of his qualifications as an analyst, I'm specifically concerned about this: He is indeed someone with an international reputation, so why this action now? Is he sensing the Indian market?

As I said, I'm generally extremely critical and skeptical about many things, but here the questions are:

a) What are his sources and why should this one be better than others?

b) What does he use to sort things into "good" and "bad" ones especially on social media channels? ... as I said, especially since he doesn't speak Urdu (?) and was never a specilist on that area or topic!

c) I don't like his "unprofessional" writing style, peppered with snarky, usually derogatory comments. And yes, as I've said several times, simply listing events is pointless without analysis.

This guy says:
When I click through that link, it says:
By contrast Pakistanis claim that the Rafale was shot down by one of their JF-17C fighters, as the following photo of the PAF pilot credited with the Rafale-kill would show. Both his ‘wing’ patch (on his right shoulder) and his squadron patch are ‘speaking clear language.’
As far as I know, there's not even a 'C' variant of the JF-17.

And didn't the PAF already say all shootdowns were done by J-10C? This guy can't even get basic facts right.
