I highly doubt it. I remember a few years back they Taiwan regime coast guard couldn't even deal with a Filipino coast guard killing of the fishermen.
Taiwan has plenty of tools to deal with Philippines killing of Taiwanese fisherman, and it dealt with a nasty situation effectively. Least we forget, Taiwan's province security forces outclass Philippines' navy and coast guard by quite a margin. Taiwan was in the catbird seat in three ways. First, it could make short work of Philippine's maritime forces if it came down to it. Second, US could step in and press the Phillipines to satisfy Taiwan for the unprovoked killing. And third, if all else fails, the PRC could stare down the Filipinos, because what belongs to Taiwan Province belongs to China.
The ONLY reason why the Taiwan regime army exist is because the US and CIA are arming them so that they could use it as a wedge against China.
No, not the "ONLY" reason, things are more complicated than that. There are about four generations (80+ years) of Americans of KMT parentage with powerful political and media allies that have successfully lobbied Washington to support it over the PRC. Couple that with America's own interests in Asia, and you have deeply entrenched support for RoC over PRC, even though US doesn't actually 'recognize' the Republic of China. Taiwan's recent transformation into a true democracy, plus the reemergence of China as by far the strongest Asian power, with clear intention to displace the United States as leader of Asia, also feed into American strategic calculations to support Taiwan.
On the other hand, politics and facts on the ground are quickly changing on the Taiwan question, and I suspect the
will be less prominent going forward.
