I haven't found any news on the HF-IIE being canceled, but Xinhui and Stuart Slade both think it has been, and they're pretty well connected professionals.

So what did they have to say about the KMT legislator's statement a few months ago that parts had been ordered for its mass production? Was he lying, or did they order the parts and then cancel it?
I'll wait for an official statement. I remember people predicting that neither Bush nor Obama would be making arms sales of the sort that they did.
I believe they were referring to the 1,500km version. The one the KMT legislator was talking about is something like 500 to 600km.
Oh that's been discussed in the defence media for some time, as I recall. The 1000km+ version was shelved because they couldn't get the right turbofan technology from the US or something.
I think the version being worked on originally had a 600km range, which was increased up to 800km thanks to refinements in the fuel/fuel system.
