Supersonic Bomber/AWAC combo

recent news has popped again that, Russia is willing to let CHina have the Tu-22 Bomber license production. Does China still has a need for the TU-22 old bomber?

Maybe China would just copy the airframe and use its own engines and avionics.

Also put the balance beam radar underneath the belly of plane, voila, then it would become a supersonic bomber/AWACS /w BVR missiles for self defense.
It's combo of speed, big radar, and BVR should make it very capable of defending against interceptors.

It's still a serious threat against most Navy.

Look if the Tu-22 Bomber still poses a threat, why not produce more? The more they produce the more technogically advanced they become in producing bombers. They can upgrade them and develop their own bombers to be superior than that of the Russians. Russia still needs more money anyway.

I ran across a chinese article mentions that couple days ago. I couldn' locate where it's now.

awhile ago, Russia offered china the TU-22 M from its existing fleet, but CHina is not interested in the old frames and the Russia already stop its production.

It would only make sense if China can license produce the new frame and add its own weapons, engines and avionics.

Then why not just make one from scratch, if you want to use indigenous parts, using a old frame only add constraints, and it does not make the project any easier.

Hate to burst your bubble ..but this combination you described may be lethal.

Numerous electronic emissions can set off the fuzes in many munitions. Many. Extensive R&D would have to be done to determine which munitions would be safe to load in the aircraft described.

I would rather prefer that China license the Tu-95s for use as long range patrol and surveillance aircraft. Superior station and loiter time.

I think the key for activation is very frequency dependent. Specific frequency +sequence will make each case unique , won't causing false triggering.

Furthermore, on station time and range would be atrocious on a supersonic platform...

First priority would be long range strike platform /wo refueling. It's huge balance beam radar is more as advantage against interceptors or fighter planes.
