Makes sense. Even if offered free, the cost to run a Spruance is very big. Better to allocate on smaller vessels that are not crew intensive.

Above that, buying a Spruance will only make it a big fat target for the Indian Brahmos missile. Within seconds of any conflict the Spruance will be sunk. Remember, it doesn't have a stealthy hull at all so it won't be hard to detect.

Hey but I thought the Oliver Perry's couldn't carry Harpoons ? I had supposed the idea was to use the frigates as missile platforms.

I am shocked though because I had assumed a destroyer was way more
powerful than a frigate and could take a pounding. I suppose thats what they
said about the titanic too

Perry's MK 13 launchers can launch both SM-1 and Harpoons...

You are quite right Golly but IIRC USN striped Mk 13 launchers from all remaining Perry's... So any possible customer will receive ships without any missile air defenses/anti-ship capabilities...

Well lets not underestimate the Spruance too much...if that was a live beast the USN was shooting at, then it would have fought back...

The Spruance is not the greatest in armaments...and yes if it was in harbour during the opening hours of a war, it would be a priority target, not because its big, but because it would be PN's most capable ship. Armed with eight harpoons, ASROC and sea sparrow SAM, it is quite well armed, and especially dangerous against Indian submarines. It has two phalanx CIWS aswell, so it does have some chance to shooting down missiles, so it is not simply a sitting duck.
