Sadly China played Indonesia today in football and lost 0-1 which is like the first time in 70 years they lost to them. That means China is out for qualifying for the world cup next year. Game over.

I really don't know what's wrong with China here. They seem to be going backwards. When you lose to Indonesia then you have no excuse. They don't hire all these black guys from the premier league. A lot of netizens will try to blame coaches but every single coach has problems. Clearly the players suck but if the training method was right, they could be easily replaced.

I'm really lost at this point. The whole football system needs to be just scrapped and replaced altogether. When they picked these guys, they used the wrong methodology entirely. China can figure out almost anything but not football. And while football is just ultimately a cope for not leading in semiconductors or AI, its feels frustrating seeing China unable to identify the root cause of this problem.
Don't worry about it. We always knew that China's soccer team would lose and any random 10 kids you find in any ghetto or slum around the world. It's the goofball comedic relief aspect of the nation LOL

Chinese football needs to be state-run like the Olympics team.

I read a post before, accdg to a football guy in China, he said that, if i rememver correctly, that "dark age" of chinesw football isnt over yet, those born from 2000(?) to 2015(?), cant remember exactly, would bear this burden.

Also seem also men football, VB, and basketball hav similar issues like that in CN? Even baseball...

Do they have a national youth tournamwnt for underages, like highschool, like all highschools in country involved, not just select few. Also, maybe the schools have too big population? But can only hav 1 varsity team? Instead of more smaller population schools, but with football pitches each, and varsity teams each?

Hope the younger generations be better. Heard the current china boys u16 won vs Australia boys u16 in a friendly event recently.

There's something wrong with the entire system of men's team sports in China. Saying it's genetics doesn't make sense considering east Asians and hell South East Asians don't have the same issues.

Until the root cause is found and addressed, the pain will not stop.

Maybe divide big population schools to more smaller population schools, and more football teams and fields would help. Bcoz i saw a douyin video saying their school has thousands of students..

I think people are underestimating the gargantuan time and resouces that are needed to be a world class footballing nation nowadays. It's equivalent to catching up in the semi conductor industry. Why? The elite football nations has literally a hundred years head start, have massive leagues in term of knowledge or tactical base and training methods and facilities. European football is like the Warring States (or Spring and Autumn) period of Chinese history. Huuuge amount of talent, money and most importantly, the most leading edge of tactical thinking and refinement is coursing through it, under the most intense of competition.

Just look at the succesful Asian nations, like Japan or Korea. The Europeans look at them the same way ancient Chinese look at Korea and Japan, yes, good learners, but are to be crushed when faced in competition.

Just like the discussions in Soft Power, this is a fools errand. Make China the mightiest and wealthiest nation on earth, then we can choose which sport entertainment we want to excel in, or better yet create a better sport, where we make the rules, and others can aspire to join our sports.

In the mean time, it's not like China has zero to look forward to in sports. We have the Olympics, and I may add that can be considered as a "team event" too, when considered as a whole.

Football takes a lot to be at the top. But I wonder does it take that much resources to become just good enough to qualify for the world cup? Like just enough to not be a national embarrassment. Iran, Uzbekistan and hell even Jordan are in the world cup next year. North Korea has been in the world cup at least twice which is more than China. Does it take that much resources? Even though Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia will probably not be in for a while, we can at least see they made solid progress. I personally don't even believe its a money problem but an approach problem.

Maybe it's a good thing to not even be at the World Cup, so that football doesn't suck even more Chinese money and attention than it currently does. Better to focus on running and swimming faster, jumping higher, etc. for the time being.
