There was a female south Korean judo athlete who accidentally clawed her opponent in the face and was subsequently disqualified. They are certainly having an interesting meet

they are weak in vaulting and floor but strong in uneven bars and balance beam.

Could be cuz the leaders prefer to concentrate on these two disciplines as they have much better of gold. Also I suspect Chinese girls are chosen based on the physiques that favour UB and BB.
WEI Xiaoyuan is current two time world champion in UB. China womens traditionally quite good in BB too but this event is very high risk. A error of 1 or 2 inches and you fall off the beam, that’s your gold gone.

The all around event is basically a non starter for rest of the world cuz US came out with a freak athlete called Simone Biles.
The team event was a mess for China last time , too many of them messed up their routine. It happens

yeah it’s not reported on here at all. But we have a small government funded tv channel called sbs that broadcast the swimming events live here. Only cuz Aus has a hard on for swimming. And some cycling events soon.

I find it interesting many of the top swimmers in China are from hangzhou or trained there. Is there a reason aside from hangzhou being a very rich province
Sorry i meant to say from Zhejiang province not just Hangzhou, which is in Zhejiang

well I don't know what the issue is with chinese womens gymnastics. I mean gymnastics has a strong tradition in China. and we got 1.4 billion people to choose from. you'd think China would be stronger in this discipline.

International Tennis returns to china since covid with some smaller tournaments alrasy being played but china open is the bigger one.

WTA obviously had collective amnesia and did not wave the Peng Shuai card like they did conveniently during lockdown period to bash China. After all money and sponsorships are what they are really after.

On ATP side, even though the men's china open is just a 500 tournament compared to women's china open being a premier 1000 event, the field is most stacked I've seen for a 500 tournament. The first round itself had some really great match ups. Comments on you tube also agree with me. Which shows most top players didn't buy the media's china bashing story. Money fame and ranking points are what it matters.

Even worse is basketball. You see basketball courts everywhere, but the program has actually regressed in the last 25 years.

I don’t think there is a single reason why there are so many failures in these sports. Obviously the training and talent identification regime just isn’t there.

There was a funny photo recently where Yao Ming got so fed up with a player he went down to the court to show him how to do free throws.
