Currently watching DOTA2 major (second most important events after the DOTA WC) and gaming bans seem to have utterly decimated the Chinese DOTA2 scene. China used to be the strongest region in the game - yes, they did not always win The International (essentially, WC for DOTA2) but they always were consistently top tier and had many teams in top 6: TI 1 (top 2, top 6), TI 2 (top 1, top 3-5), TI 3 (top4-6), TI 4 (top 1-2, top 4-5), TI 5 (top 2-5), TI 6 (top 1, top 5), TI 7 (top 2-4, top 6), TI 8 (top 2), TI 9 (top 3, top 6), TI 10 (top 2, top 4, top 6), TI 11 (top 4-5). So even in the worst year, they were able to produce a top 2 team or get 2 teams in top 6 of important events.

This season, most of the older players who were winning those places have retired or are past their prime but there's zero influx of fresh blood. I see mostly dudes who used to play on tier 3-4 level but now they are playing in tier 1-2 Chinese teams and the results are horrendous - they barely get out of group stages and there are zero Chinese teams in top 6 of two last major tournaments. Not only that, the scene is plagued by match-fixers and two Chinese pro teams recently got permanently banned from all competitions for that, one of the teams was EHOME who has finished in top 6 of TI multiple times in the past. Such a sad thing to see, used to cheer for Chinese teams since DOTA2 became a thing and started the yearly TI events :(
Korea can have their LOL championship, while we Chinese take their shipbuilding, electronics, and semiconductors industry with the unleashed eSports nerds. Who needs APM when you have superior Wafers per minute.

These things are not mutually exclusive, especially for China with 1.4 billion population.

The crazy thing is he achieved what he achieved while playing alongside the second greatest (Federer) and third greatest (Nadal) of all time.

If those two weren't around Djokovic would easily have 30+ slams.

If Nadal didn't exist, Federer easily would get 40

If Federer and Djoker didn't exist, Nadal would get 40 too, easily

If there were equal grand slam for clay vs hard court, Nadal would get 40 too

If all grand slams were grass, Federer would get 50

If ....

If ...

There are so many IFs .. and it doesn't matter

I'm just pointing out how crazy it is that we got 3 all time greats playing in the same era and going head to head with each other.

1.4 billion population, yet severe labor shortage in shipbuilding and semiconductor industry.

Yet, if you take top 0.1% of China's 553 million gamer population, you will basically resolve the shortage in both semiconductor and shipbuilding industry.

Relic of China's rapid development - older population has vastly lower education levels, creating a shortage of experienced specialists for advanced industries, eSports has like zero influence on that. Plus judging from the youth unemployment stats, there is actually a shortage of jobs for all those highly educated graduates which is not really surprising considering the dramatic increase in uni enrollments for the newer generations.

You are talking as if 553 million gamer population is equal to 553 million people playing games fulltime as a job rather than a hobby or entertainment. Most of those people already have fulltime occupation - jobs, studyjng, etc. I doubt there is even a million of pro gamers.

China has been doing pretty well.

They're currently 4-0 and they've defeated Germany (3-1), Japan (3-1), Brazil (3-1) and the Netherlands (0-4)
So, they've beaten 3 teams who, other than the loss to China, are undefeated in the tournament so far. (The other one is Netherlands, who suck)

The two other undefeated teams so far is Poland and USA.
I don't know where to watch the games live but the highlights get put on youtube pretty quickly.
Interesting, they completely turned around after the disastrous Tokyo OG campaign. Nice to see them back in top form hopefully it to lose it before the next OG.

Yep for sure. Just a shame he missed out on potentially a few more grand slams wins cuz of his no vaccination belief and one for being harshly disqualified in the US open. Other wise he would have cemented his status long ago
