I saw Bob Costas, longtime host of the Olympics in the US, being interviewed and he explained why US cheating is different from when Russia or China cheats. It's because individuals in the US choose to cheat while in Russia and China it's state sponsored. Nevermind that most cheating methods start in the US under the guise of sports medicine are not considered cheats until it's discovered and there's a test for it. By then a new cheating method is created. That's why athletes from countries that get caught cheating are using older methods passed down hence why they get caught. It's not surprising that a good portion of US athletes are the sons and daughters of the rich hence why they get access to the latest and undiscovered cheats as the US brags it has the best sports medicine program in the world. And they know this is happening because it's only recently sporting authorities started keeping blood samples of athletes instead of immediately disposing them after they've been tested. In the future they will be able to test old samples for cheats that weren't known about at that time. A US institution that creates cheats is at least as bad as state sponsored cheating.
Typical sanctimonious bs. Our drug cheating is better because we do it as free, informed individuals and not forced as part of some state sponsored prog. Sounds good until you realise that the drug cheating amongst these free, informed athletes were not only known to state level officials but also actively covered up by them. It's no different from state sponsored drug programs just with a layer of plausible deniability.
No, it's not even that the west has the better drugging technology. More than anything, they also have the old boys club covering up for each other when their athletes fail their samples.
Long before the wheels fell off Armstrongs bike, US athletics had their wikileaks event when an ex-USOC official leaked a bunch of documents that detailed the USOC drug cover up for over a hundred US olympians over 20 years including Murican apple pie heros like Lewis and Flo-jo. But of course we know how embarrassing things like that get hushed off the front pages and ultimately forgotten so that they can go back to biz as usual.
Seems to be the SOP, eg. like the Aussie SAS war crimes. Cover up and deny, go after the whistle blowers until it all blows up and you can't cover up anymore. Make some trite words of contrition and vow to get to the bottom of it ... let it all die down and back to business as usual.
