Talking about soccer...
...We just won Armenia and we are now number on in our division to the next European championship tournament. Now to germans and other great nations of soccer it may not be big news, but to us it is. Finland have never qualified to the final tournament in neither world nor european level, so naturally we are all very exited as for once we may have a change to qualificate...at once where the gods of fortune fauvorable to us...

Ohhh man... I saw the coolest sports game of any sport ever yesterday.
My school's varsity water polo team (I'm too young to be on varsity
) was playing our rivals Newport Harbor in the quarter-final round of the Southern California inter-school sports league playoffs. We got two of our best players including our very best player who scores most of our goals kicked out of the game (that can happen in polo) and we had to put in some substitutes who weren't as good. We were down 3 goals in the 4th quarter with 3:00 minutes left. But we made a comeback (that's hard as hell in polo) and tied it up. Then we went for 4 overtime periods with multiple goals scored. There were like a thousand people watching and the whole place was going crazy but then...the other team just scored in sudden death and all of the sudden it was over. The whole place just went quiet. It was sooo depressing . But we were the underdogs anyway and were playing without our best man. It's just sad to see the seinors go like that, after that game their season was over.
Still the best polo game I have seen in quite a while if not ever.
You can see a bit about my high school's (American) football escapades earlier in this thread. We won that time, and beat the same school we lost to in this water polo game. Its a great cross-town rivalry between schools, but especially in football and water polo.

After listening to the NBA match between Lakers and Magic which the Lakers won 101-96 xD. I thought....theres no real sports thread in SDF. Why not make one? Here everyone can discuss their favourite sports and all the latest sports news.

Had to listen to it via NBA radio online. No live broadcast on free tv, only watchable on pay TV, Australia doesn't share the same amount of appreciation for basketball. I think I might miss Game 3.....(sigh), oh well....lets hope the Lakers win and dominate like Game 1.

As a suggestion perhaps the mods might like to merge the two threads about sport?.
Anyway I think its great Roger managed to win on Clay at last thus equalling Pistol Pete Sampras 'record' of major classic wins. I wonder if he will go on to hold title in his own right.. What's against him is the fact that there's a few more men out there who having beaten him, are confident of doing it again..
Didn't Mao once say that women were important in that that they held up one end of the sky, or something like that. Well the Chinese women are certainly doing their bit in sport, as I reckon overall, they have outperformed the men at international level in all forms of sport.
For instance where are the men in grass hockey, volleyball, beach volleyball curling, ice skating, speed skating, cycling, board sailing, weight lifting, some swimming events, to name a few.

popeye was right about tonight's game. just finished watching it live and it's again an exciting game til the last seconds. and pau gasol totally got punched in the back and went ballistic. that was funny. i looked for the clip on youtube but i guess the omnipotency of youtube is lacking...
