...and the answer is, it could do a lot!

Just like an F-5E or and F-20 upgraded to new weapons ans sensors could.

Anyone facing them would have to respect them, particularly if they got into knife fighting range.

Definitely a cheap deadly plane that you don't have to worry to much about lost or damage. The only issue it would be facing is intercepting combat radius

As a kid I remember building models of Mig-21s, Mig-23s, Mig-29s, SU-22s, and SU-24s and having them go up against my F-4 Phantoms, F-8 Crusader,s F-16 Falcons, A-6 Intruders, and F-111 Ardvark models.
