@badoc thanks bro, we in ASEAN need to clean up the mess our colonizer had left behind, the policy they implement Divide and Conquer really leave a lasting Scars in the native psychic. In our case our Muslim brethren enclave which was the whole of Mindanao had shrank to the present 3 provinces, you can understand the grievances they hold, they become a minority in their owned land.

And there is a lingering problem regarding Sabah, It is part of Sultanate of Zulu and there is strong linkage with the Tausog in Jolo, It will become a future flash point as nationalism both in Malaysia and the Philippine may led to the dissolution of ASEAN.
Sabah belongs to Sultanate of Sulu.
So by association, should rightly belong to the Philippines.
Philippines should take back Sabah similar to how China took Hong Kong after lease to the Colonialist ends.

Philippines should engage Chinese help to strengthen its economy and military instead of the US.
And negotiate with Malaysia from a position of strength.

@badoc bro the Muslim insurrection had the support of Malaysia, they are playing both side cause IF there is peace in Mindanao, the next target is Sabah. The oxymoron policy of Aquino administration by letting Malaysia be a mediator is crazy and unpatriotic. In return the gov't sidelined the current Sultan of Zulu by withholding funds and its status. That policy and the American intervention led to SAF 44 incident.

My thinking and I hope @Hendrik_2000 and other Malaysian members can add to the discussion, as the Malaysia economy deteriorate the situation in Sabah will worsen. Malaysia is an amalgamation of different state, faction and ethnicity, it can fracture easily cause as a nation it is of British creation. Like I said the linkage between Jolo and Sabah is strong, that is why the Abu Sayah still remain as a threat after incurring massive defeat in Marawi. And the reason why the Malaysian gov't is so PRO US, they need their protection and willing to pay the Mafia fee and also in a way grateful for not supporting The Philippine claimed on Sabah.

I think Philippines trying to reclaim Sabah would be a pretty futile endeavour. The sabahan population is basically already fully integrated into malaysian society. It's a gigantic state with direct land links to sarawak but separated by sea to philippines. It's not like hong kong which is a tiny city linked by land to china. Not to mention the current state of the Filipino military

By the way, just found out Bongbong Marcos is leading opinion polls very hugely. What does this mean for Philippine politics?

It will not be futile if the Philippines were to somehow become strong economically and militarily.
Check out all those far away islands that became the properties of the powerful Imperial Colonizers.

When China became weak from invaders and internal strife, SouthEast Asian countries were stealing islands from China.
The Chinese sailed the seas in their large ocean going boats and settled in the lands surrounding the South China sea,
not the other way round.
Now they say these islands a few hundred miles away are so close to them but it is not the case centuries ago when they feared to venture a couple of hundred miles into the typhoon infested waters.

Unfortunately for thieves, China has risen rapidly and demand for their stolen islands.
Naturally the thieves are reluctant to return their loot.
I can still remember that time, when South East Asian countries were apprehensive for Chinese reaction when they decided to grab these islands.
Lets hope reason prevails and there will be negotiated settlements with compromises and concessions made instead of war.

@sndef888 bro as what @badoc had posted and explained (thanks bro you had summarized it so well) . The British never occupied Sabah cause they had a lease agreement with the Sultan Of Zulu. It was only incorporated as a Malaysian confederation by the British after WW2. In other words like the American they never been subjugated nor colonized. The reason Malaysia is intervening in our domestic affair especially in Muslim Mindanao as an observer is to obstruct the peace process, an example Marwan the ISIS leader is a Malaysian national, he and other Malaysian terrorist are able to enter Mindanao thru the back door via the Sabah and Jolo corridor so there are collusion, as I said the linkage between the two are strong, Why are they able to leave Sabah and why don't the Malaysian Navy patrol that area of Zulu Sea? Within Sabah territory you can easy intercept and observe the In/Out of individual especially an International known terrorist.
By the way, just found out Bongbong Marcos is leading opinion polls very hugely. What does this mean for Philippine politics?
Happy days baby, happy days indeed, IF anything goes as plan, we will have 12 years of continues Duterte Independent Foreign Policy, friends to all enemy to none and a cherry on the cake a lesser American influence. Cheers to ASIAN CENTURY! Sugoi !!!

An Indonesian consortium mainly comprising state-owned enterprises has been established to reverse engineer an anti-ship missile type with a view of establishing the capability in-country.

The consortium is led by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense's (MoD's) Directorate for Technology and Defense Industry and includes state-owned enterprises namely aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia, defence electronics enterprise PT Len, explosives manufacturer PT Dahana, and heavy vehicles and ammunition producer PT Pindad.

Meanwhile, the two private enterprises that have been named as part of the consortium are defence software company PT Mulia Laksana Utama and unmanned aerial vehicles manufacturer PT Aero Terra Indonesia. An agreement to formalise the consortium was signed on 1 April, the Indonesian MoD said in a statement on 2 April.

Among matters that were formalised include the scope of work that each company will be involved in and the tests and certification processes that will be carried out at various stages of the weapon's dismantling.

“We hope that the mastering of this technology will eventually lead to the existence of an indigenous anti-ship missile industry and the ability to produce the weapon in-country to support the armed forces' objectives of preserving the country's sovereignty,” the MoD said in the statement.

The MoD statement stopped short of disclosing the type of missiles that will be involved in the reverse engineering process. However, an image accompanying its statement closely resembled the C-705 medium-range anti-ship missile manufactured by China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC).

Are they going to cooperate/pay CASIC?

No. The deal fell years ago over some economic reason, apparently.

The program is actually bit hard to believe as we haven't really make a move for establishing necessary industry, for starters we have no active components industry for the seeker, so we cannot make radar seeker. We were also limited by MTCR that we can't really buy a high update rate GPS or other SATNAV receiver nor having industry for making gyroscope so it's a nonstarter too for a land attack in general.
