sergeant course...that'd be equivalent to our ILQ?? did you take any leadersihp courses before that?
In my time, sergeant course is known as SISPEC. It actually trained army specialist who when graduated would be able to lead a section (squad) and become a squad leader (7 men in infantry role, 6 men in commando role) in combat. Don't know what your ILQ was actually (not familiar with that term).
In non-combat arm, our sergeant course was normally reserve for people with higher education such as polytechnic graduates, they have to undergo a specialist training program in their respective arms such as technical arm, and would rise to become a Tech Specialist, armament specialist, clerical specialist, etc.
