Combat footage taken back in 1984-86 from the PLA battling against Vietnamese forces. The author of the said footage mentioned that this method of fighting (Chinese war of attrition). Many Westerners aren't even aware that the conflict went on for nearly a whole decade after 1979.
DESCRIPTION:
"The above video is not from the 1979 war, but the 1984-1989 border skirmishes. This was part of China's strategy of attrition. Through low-intensity conflicts on the border, China forced Vietnam, a nation already wrecked by decades of war, to maintain a high military readiness, and thus bankrupting Vietnam eventually. This strategy worked. In 1990 Vietnam sent an envoy to Beijing to sue for peace, withdrew from Cambodia, ceded territory to China, and adopted Chinese-style economic reforms.
This particular video is taken from a 1986 operation, where the PLA picked out a Vietnamese position, took it by assault, killed all the defenders, then withdrew back into China. This type of operation was repeated over and over again, to maintain a constant military pressure on Vietnam. It's claimed that in this operation, 222 Vietnamese soldiers were killed and one POW taken. The PLA suffered 7 casualties."
