Mental gynamstic is one thing, but this is more a Freudian slip: they really do think F47 is a copy of J50 and they're insecure about it, which opens up a lot of psyop attack vectors

Same as whenever they say "China is just trying to scare us", which is an admission they're scared.
Just to add this on thing to it. Many generals' strategy to counter China outwardly echoes more of a "JUST BELIEVE IN OURSELVES!!!" approach as if this is the Dragon Ball or Saint Seiya anime, instead of what it used to be for decades, that is, "just swarm them with lots of high tech weapons/stuff".

That’s what that dumb kid in my Linear Systems class told himself before failing the class for the third and final time.

Too bad the engine nozzles are blurred. Otherwise we would have a good chance of figuring out if it has 3D TVC.
Was 3D TVC ever in the question? I was under the impression that the nozzles are very much similar to the ones that were on display at the Zhuhai airshow which were definitively 2D TVC. I would be curious to how 3D TVC would work with these flat nozzles if it's possible.

Regardless, why was it blurred?

It looks to me like the nozzles have been intentionally blurred in that image, possibly for that precise reason. If those paddles do indeed allow for some form of 3D TVC in an otherwise "flat" arrangement, then that's a new capability worth hiding. Or rather, worth blotting out in case MSS comes knocking on your door.
