I would have supposed it was older, but the verts being pushed back may be an upgrade to be more like the F-35, but I would have thought the modeler would have "clipped the tips" if it were indeed more recent?

SAC Unveiled new concpet model of FC-31 in Abu Dhabi , UAE Which is currently being held . The official said that this design is for potential buyers . This model is very similar to first prototype except for the cockpit which is single piece bubble canopy just like F-16 and the inlets are a bit curved however it doesnt bear resemblence to the recently tested latest prototype which was flown in Dec. This is the 3rd concept model of FC-31.
Sorry, but here I disagree: IMO this is plain and simple an not-very accurate model of a generic FC-31. Don't ask me why they don't show on that quite important show a new model but instead an outdated one, but I cannot believe that after years of refinements from V1 to V2 and just one flight of the improved prototype they revert nearly everything back to some sort of V1.63 !

What makes anyone think the J-31 would be anymore useful against the F-35 than the J-15? I've seen no evidence the J-31 would be any more effective than the J-7 against F-35.

J-20 is a limited production weapons platform, currently in service with the PLAAF. J-31 is vaporware, with 2 maybe 3 demonstration models. The difference can't be more stark.

Usually, it's a safe bet that newly-designed aircraft are superior to older ones, even without direct "evidence." Otherwise, one could say that there is no evidence that the B-21 Raider that the USAF is working on is going to be any better than a B-52 but do you really think the USAF would screw up so royally that a 2020 aircraft is inferior to a 1950's bird? Even if it gets cancelled, it won't be because it was worse than a B-52. What evidence do you have that a newly-designed nuke does more damage than chucking a brick at the target? LOL Even those designs that don't make it to production are usually superior to the designs they are meant to replace, simply they were cancelled because a better option was selected and/or their advantages did not merit the extra costs.

Given the history of US weapon platform development, I'm not at all confident the B-21 will ever see service in the USAF. So, right now I'd say there's no evidence the B-21 will be anymore effective than the Martin MB-1 bomber.
