Very nice video, and this little tech demonstrator flies very well, the main reason the ole Brat much prefers a "traditional" planform for A2A, it is just much simpler to get the performance you need when you stick with "tried and true" construction and materials? Very nice Immelman right off the deck, and back into a nice "aileron roll", no doubt this bird is coming into its own, sweet little airplane!

I think FC-31 is a awesome aircraft with great potential. The overall design is sleek and seems to me as a true 5th generation fighter. The improved model from recent Zhuhai air show looks even better and it would be nice if the canopy would be truly frameless in the final production version, as in the model.
Do you guys know if there is any ongoing PLAF projects on stealthy thrust vectoring nozzles as in F-22? And what is the reason/advantages for abandoning the current f-22 like vertical fins and replacing them with fins similar to F-35 and J-20?

I will highlight two things that AVIC CEO said about the J-31. First, the project is purely privately funded. This settles the speculations as to whether the plane is government backed or military backed. Secondly, the wings and body is one integrated piece. One engineer on the show said that number of components is reduced to 46% compared to third generation fighters. Fewer components means less seams, and less seams means weight saving plus shortened assembly time.
Putting the technical aspect aside, it is obvious those people on the show still hope to carve out a slice of the forth generation cake from the J-20 project.
