How long do you think It will be until this aircraft (J-31) is available for export?

Export is just a pretext so that the SAC can develop it's own 5th gen jet and try to share a piece of cake after losing the
competition against CAC,the most important client on SAC's list will always be PLAAF and PLAN,i think the only question now is:dose J-31 have good enough performance to catch up the increasing ambition of military?

This Altantic article author doesn't have a clue pointing to a CGI as being wrong. Unless that's the point to convey to readers. If you like reading comments, look in here. The most cringeworthy are the guys who talk like they're experts yet what they state is complete ignorance.

No son llamas. Son alpacas originarias del Perú y criadas en California.

Oops, my bad...

However, alpacas is a type of llama and is still very closely related to llama. So technically, I am still correct. On the other hand, I should not mix the two... My fault

Why bother reading such drivel? It's just a waste of time.

It is no mystery really how news organizations keep managing to find such clueless 'experts', it's all a nice little racket. The papers know what their readers want to hear, so they will only pay and print the views of the 'independent experts' who say the right things.

If you are an 'independent expert', the choices are either to say what you truly think and have no-one mainstream pay you any heed, or toe the party line, get paid for your efforts and have the profile of your think tank boosted by being mentioned in mainstream media, which will generate more jobs and income. Bit of a no-brainer really.

At the end of the day, the 'experts' line their pockets, and the news organizations get to promote the message they want while being able to use 'independent experts' to lend their views legitimacy and also having the option of passing the buck to the independents if their stories turn out to be complete hogwash, as is usually the case with reports on China in general and the Chinese military in particular.

To be fair the WSJ article isn't too bad; it's written by one of the more reputable western PLA watchers Andrew Erickson.

They don't reveal a lot and steps the line or more less but say nothing too incorrect.

Oh god, the part of the engine is classic US journalism.

Pike said the primary Chinese military jet engine is based on an American design. "We started development of this engine back in the '60s. Then they commercialized it in the 1970s. Then the Chinese got a hold of it 20 years ago and it's still no good. It's a half century-old design that they've been working on for two decades, and it's still no good."

Just watch, this paragraph alone is going to be quote for the next 20 years to death, to support the evidence that Chinese are cannot do anything but stealing, and they are not even good at stealing old American technology.
