Carrier, for sure! Export, hmmmmmmmmm? Who does China trust that much?

How's that as a question to start a thread?

With which nation will China's establish its first strategic partnership of near-equals, and how will that partnership evolve?

Shenyang is desperately trying to survive by any means necessary but I doubt traditional Chinese importers have enough funds for a 5th gen fighter.

Absolutely, that's why I pose the question as to which nation might, in the next 10 years, qualify as a potential J-31 export customer, among other things.

I don't see any ME countries getting it so maybe Brazil and Argentina could theoretically afford it. Unless the nutjobs in North Korea want some for free like they requested with J-10.

Nations that can't buy from US or Russia, are 99% won't have the requirement for a 5th gen fighter craft, or just too poor to afford the whole support package for such hardware...just the RAM coating requires the kind of care that'd be too much on their budget.

The real customer Shenyang has in mind is PLAN and PLAAF - it's just difficult to think of any other realistic foreign customers with demands of sufficient quantity to make this project profitable.

Having said that, I think PLAN would be interested, eventually, if Shenyang can satisfy PLAN's majority requirements. PLAN can have both J-15 and J-31.

Compare that pic in post 1631 with this:

I think J-31 looks a bit better than JSF, especially from the front. I'm sure higher res shots of the underside will show it's very sleek ala F-22, J-20 as well rather than bumpy like F-35. Also, I'd like to see if there was indeed a tailhook under the sting. There probably isn't, but just to make sure.
