Several new Chinese ship designs for export unveilled

Re: Titanic II

I don't think steel of the original specification is available, nor the steam turbines or boilers, or the radio equipment.
Btw Titanic departed from Southampton, not London.

They're probably going to use the best grade steel available, simply because this can be hidden and the new Titanic can still look as original as possible. But yeah, it will be interesting to see up to what extend the original specification will be followed and how they're going to make them safe this time around.

First order of business would be how many lifeboats...for "authentic" look it'd have to be less than today's standard, open top and unmotorized...

Don't tell me they're going to have the same number of lifeboats to make things as authentic as possible. I suppose they have to because lifeboats are a very visual part of the Titanic.

WTF Seriously,

I post something with new, never seen before ship designs (including a brand new Destroyer project mind you!) and yet everybody (except for two people) decide to go off topic and talk about Titanic 2...

Chill..lol

I only posted that here because I couldn't find another relevant export ship thread...

And there isn't much to be said anyway -- the destroyer is really a frigate, and a revamped 054A at that. Not much to say really, we've all been expecting 054a to get on the export market eventually. If we're to discuss it, well sure, it has a larger standard displacement (4500t) than 054A's max displacement (some 4000 t), from the pictures you can see it's obviously larger -- you can tell it's wider because the VLS cells are placed horizontally compared to 054A's vertical orientation, and the hangar appears to be larger, possibly able to accomodate two helicopters. The ciws is also more similar to 052C/burke placements, and the bow is stealthier, like la fayette or type 45 daring. also the smoke stack and rear radar mast are separated, compared to standard 054A where they are one structure.

But we can see all that via the picture, not really a need to discuss it.
The only semi new thing we can possibly say is that the fact an 054A derivative is being marketed, is that this shows chinese shipyards are working on a follow up frigate either for the short term or mid term. If the orbat chart is accurate, some shipyards currently working on 054A may be seeking to build 054AE's (E for export), for a few years between the end of PLAN 054A production and next generation frigate production.

I just remember - I don't think any shipyard in the world is able to clinch the the skin plates together in the old fashioned way.

I think the result of Titanic II reflects that everybody (or at least most people) doubt the credibility of the information you posted. Will China build Titanic 3 or the New Titanic with higher screen resolution, 5MP rear camera and equipped with the latest 4G LTE? I plan to buy one if price is not too high. :p

Yeah, hopefully they won't built it per spec, because we know what happened the last time...

I was watching a documentary recently and they were able to recreate as best the could the most realistic and up todate analysis of the accident including portions of her that were salvage. The conclusion was Titanic was indeed very well built and in many cases even over engineered.
Many experts agree that everything else being equal even modern ships would sink like she did maybe even quicker. The fact that she took almost 3 hours to finally sink despite her significant damage below the waterline is a strong testament to her strong hull. The only thing Titanic lack was obviously modern electronics and sensors. Her built itself was extremely strong.
