that was pretty pathetic, lol. I do think patriot missiles are the most overrated system in the world.

The S-300 is quite impressive.

The Patriot was the first air defense system in the world to successfully intercept a theater ballistic missile.

so? ballistic missles are slow and easy to detect. not ot meantion they arnt use anymore.

on sinodefence is written the s-300 has a 90% hitchance against an aircraft, i wonder whats its chance of firsthit if the plane starts mooving, patriot can even take down smaller missiles, but however in a few years it will be replaced with meads

no, it claimed to have successfully intercepted the Scud missile, but it really didn't.

The first combat use of Patriot occurred 18 January 1991 when it successfully intercepted and destroyed an Iraqi Scud missile fired at Saudi Arabia.

that's what the perception is, but a report by Ted Koppel and a senate enquiry showed that the Patriot missile actually didn't do that well. The reason for the mistake is this:
Patriot missile counts a sucess as exploding in the vicinity of where it thinks the opposing missile will be. However, that wasn't the case with the Scud, so it's success % is not a real measuring stick. I think if you remember watching it on TV, how the American general Norman Schwartz (I think) was looking at a video of patriot vs scud and saying:
it hit the scud here and here and here and....
Now, the interesting part is that there was only one scud and it kept on going even after the patriot missile stopped firing. That's why Israel was hit so many times.

the ealry patriot was a piece of crap. they fire em in slavos of four to try to guarentee a hit. but still many scuds aliped through. the early patriots were purly for israeli comfort.

they weren't feeling so comfortable when they got hit by the scuds though.

the early patriots suck due to an numerical error in its calculations:

" A report of the General Accounting office, GAO/IMTEC-92-26, entitled Patriot Missile Defense: Software Problem Led to System Failure at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia reported on the cause of the failure. The Patriot missile failures in Desert Storm were due to roundoff error because the system was designed to be on alert for only a few minutes at a time. Instead, they ran continuously for days. The clock, which was storing time in floating-point, began to have too many digits to the left of the decimal place and not enough after the decimal place to do accurate timings of incoming SCUD velocities."
