Russia's Tank Biathlon

Long story short, Russia is cheating quite a bit in both the Tank Biathlon and the APC competition:

1) Tried to cancel the "floating" competition (something Chinese marines excel at) on the Caspian Sea on the ground of rough weather when the wind was only 2km/h.
2) Removed loading time from consideration because Chinese soldiers were able to reload within 25 seconds.
3) Took a long time to erect the targets for Type-96A teams.

No wonder the champion will be and has always been the Russian team ;).

Just like in Olympics, the home team will enjoy various 'advantages". What I'm reading is that some of the "tricks" may not be intentional. For example, the Chinese team was told for the pontoon competition, the river is 40m wide, so the Chinese team brought 50m of pontoon sections. But when arrived at the site, the river turned out to be 60m wide. But the Russian apparently was also misinformed and their pontoon is too short too. So the rule was modified to that pontoons don't need to span the entire length, whatever you have is good enough :)
And about the decision to cancel the waterborne portion of IFV, BTR-80 vs ZTD05. While ZTD05 can comfortably handle the waves with 2km/h wind, perhaps the conditions are beyond the safe range for BTR-80, which is not a dedicated amphibious vehicle like the ZTD.
So yeah definitely some tricks in play, but let's not over-attribute malice either.

The Type 96A uses an autoloader (as does T72/T80), its not about crew training but better auto-loader if the '96 can reload faster.

Although reading the original Chinese article, I don't think they were talking about the autoloader reload times (25 seconds would be appalling if that was the case as good western tank crews are supposed to be able to manage 6 rounds a minute), but rather at the start, when the tank crews are all outside their vehicles and need to manually load the first shell they are given.

In comparison, the article is claiming around 2m for the other teams.

It will be interesting to see how the Russians will make payoffs to FIFA for the World Cup?
