The Buyan-M Corvettes, with their capabilities to launch either anti-ship, or land attack cruise missiles from their VLS are a way Russia has found to build that type of capability far cheaper than doing so on a Burke, or a Tico, or a Virginia class submarine.

Of course, there are only eight such missiles be platform (a 1,000 ton platform) and their range and sustainment are not great), where the US vessels can carry scores of missiles.

But they have developed and now demonstrated a capability nonetheless, and one has to respect the Russians for doing so, and then s\\demonstrating it to the world.

They have built and commissioned six of these for the Caspian Sea Flotilla. They are building more for the Black Sea Fleet. Tow of those have been launched and four more are building.

this parts concerns both Project 21630 ("Buyan") and Project 21631 ("Buyan-M"); the ships of Project 21630 are 500 tons-displacing gun boats (there're three of them:
  1. Astrakhan (701)
  2. Volgodonsk (702)
  3. Mahachkala (703)
and should not be confused with "Buyans-M"; by the way I think that "M" stands for Modified)

it's just "Steregushchy" (they have those tough sounding names :) but not family names of Admirals, as the ships of Projects 22350 and 11356 do)

Read the whole description at my Buyan-M Flickr site..

Regarding the Buyan-M, I say...

"These are a enhanced/modified version of the Buyan Class gunboat corvette, which has also been built for the Caspian Flotilla."

The Buyan-M is the 21631, the gunboats are the 21630.

"The Russian Company Zala Aero (subdivision of Kalashnikov Concern) presented a new ZALA-421-16E5 tactical operation unmanned aerial reconnaissance system at Interpolitex 2015, the International Exhibition of Homeland Security in Moscow. This unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has great autonomy and mobility. According to its developers, the unmanned aerial vehicle /UAV/ comprised by the system features an outstanding endurance and high mobility. The UAV flight duration is 6-7 hours, the flight range up to 150 km, the monitored area exceeds 21,000 sq km from a single launch site.

ZALA 421-16E5 is developed using a unique technology of complete duplication of the key systems responsible for reliability and quality of mission performance. Specifically for this purpose a new type of engine has been developed with a built-in self-diagnostics system and UAV engine controller. All of the craft’s systems are controlled via digital buses, which is an innovative trend in the world’s aircraft construction.

The aircraft design envisions compartments for installing dedicated equipment weighing up to 5 kg.

system from an unprepared site which is an advantage compared to UAVs that need airdrome basing facilities. A new landing system has been developed for safe landing and complete safety of the onboard equipment."
