The AWACS A-100 aircraft performed a flight with the radar turned on
10.02.2022
On February 9, in Taganrog, as part of ongoing tests, the A-100 Premier radar patrol, guidance and control aircraft performed its first flight with the on-board radio-technical complex (BRTK) turned on. The tests confirmed the regular operation of special equipment, as well as aircraft on-board systems in conditions of high electromagnetic radiation. This was reported by the press service of the Rostec Group of Companies.
“During the flight, the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft, the performance of the avionics and parts of the target equipment of the BRTK were checked. Aircraft systems worked in accordance with the specified parameters and are ready for further types of tests, ”said the representative of Rostec.
“The flight took place in the normal mode. All systems and equipment worked correctly. The crew fully completed the flight task, having checked the stability and controllability of the aircraft in the given piloting modes, as well as the operation of the complex installed on the aircraft, ”said the crew commander, test pilot of the TANTK IM. G.M. Berieva, Honored Test Pilot First Class Sergey Parkhaev.
Preliminary flight tests of the A-100 aircraft began in February 2019. Previously, the A-100LL flying laboratory performed several flights as part of flight design tests. The Il-76MD-90A, mass-produced at the Ulyanovsk Aviastar-SP, became the platform for the new generation AWACS aviation complex. The development of the A-100 is carried out by specialists from the Vega concern of the Roselectronics holding and the TANTK named after A.I. G.M. Beriev. The aircraft is equipped with a fairing with an antenna system and special radio equipment. The A-100 can detect and track air and other targets, as well as participate in the control of fighter and attack aircraft when aiming at air, ground and sea targets.
According to the press service of Rostec, when creating radio equipment for the A-100, technical solutions based on modern electronic component base, high-performance computing tools, and the latest achievements of domestic radio electronics were used. This applies to both the means of obtaining information and the computer complex for its processing, as well as automated workplaces of operators.
“An important stage of testing the A-100, an aviation complex, which embodies the most advanced developments, has begun. During 2022, we plan to complete the cycle of preliminary flight tests and transfer the complex for state joint tests,” said Vladimir Verba, General Designer of the Vega Concern, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
