Sukhoi Su-30SM: deliveries in sight
Two weeks ago we were already talking about imminent deliveries by IAPO (Irkutsk) of Sukhoi Su-30SM. Meanwhile the news has accelerated since no less than 4 units have been delivered in units.
Review.
VKS (Russian Air Force)
The VKS (Russian Air Force) have just received their first two Su-30SM from the 2017 vintage.
These instruments were delivered as of June 3rd to 14th GIAP of Khalino (Kursk Oblast).
This arrival marks the beginning of the renewal of this squadron counting 2 squadrons; The first pilots already being transformed on Su-30SM in Lipetsk since November 2016.
It is quite astonishing to see the VKS renew this squadron especially in view of the fact that it is equipped with "modern" aircraft; In this case MiG-29SMT. Moreover, according to the Russian MoD in a communiqué dated 04/06: the squadron must still receive no less than 12 aircraft this year.
Such "eagerness" in the renewal of a modern squadron is quite interesting and raises some questions. The proximity with Belarus which wishes to acquire Su-30SM is perhaps not innocent in the choice of this squadron.
Or Russia wants to have more "modern" squadrons and a larger "elongation" near Ukraine. However, since the MiG-29SMT are recent devices; They will more than likely be re-employed to modernize another squadron.
