Russian Pacific Fleet to receive new 636.3-project diesel-electric submarines in 2019

The Volkhov and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky 636.3-project diesel-electric submarines will be introduced in the Pacific Fleet in 2019.

The third-generation submarines are fitted with a complex of modern high-precision missile armament. These submarines exceed their 636-project predecessors in many characteristics.

The Varshavyanka-class (Project 636.3) is an improved version of Kilo-class submarines that features advanced stealth technology, extended combat range and the ability to strike land, surface and underwater targets.

Russia currently has five Project 636.3 vessels commissioned into service with the Black Sea Fleet. While in the eastern Mediterranean Rostov-Na-Donu notably fired 3M14 Kalibr land attack cruise missiles at targets in Syria.

Russia’s Poliment-Redut Naval Air Defense System to Receive S-350 Compatible Missiles

Russia’s Poliment-Redut seaborne missile complex will be armed with three types of missiles unified with the S-350 Vityaz ground-based air defense system, Almaz-Antey aerospace defense concern Designer General Pavel Sozinov said.
The Poliment-Redut-R R&D is focused on developing small-, medium- and intermediate-range missiles for arming the relevant ships," he said in an interview published by the National Defense magazine.

"Poliment-Redut missiles have been unified with the

the chief designer added.

All new-generation missiles are being developed with active homing heads and the inertial guidance system and feature very high maneuverable characteristics for hitting the entire range of attack means, Sozinov said.

It was earlier reported that the Fakel Design Bureau produced two hard-fuel single-stage missiles with a firing range of 40 kilometers (9M96E) and 120 kilometers (9M96E2). They can intercept air targets at an altitude of 5 meters to over 30 kilometers. The use of modern gas-dynamic control means decreases the reaction time of new Russian missiles to 0.025-0.1 second and provides for super maneuverability regardless of the flight altitude and range. The missiles are distinguished by a number of characteristics, in particular, a combined use of active radar homing seekers with highly maneuverable characteristics of the missile. They are also distinguished by a radically decreased launch weight - 330 kilograms for 9M96E missile and 420 kilograms for 9M96E2 missile.

The Tupolev PAK DA (or PAK-DA) is a proposed Russian next-generation strategic bomber being developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau. The PAK DA acronym (ПАК ДА in Russian) stands for perspektivnyi aviatsionnyi kompleks dal'ney aviatsii literally meaning "prospective aviation complex for long-range aviation". The PAK DA was planned to be a new stealth strategic bomber and is expected to enter service in 2025–30, with the first aircraft previously planned for delivery in 2020, but delivery will now allegedly occur some time beyond 2023. Some of the technology and components from the PAK DA will be derived from existing aircraft. The current engine is a non-afterburning variant of the NK-32 used on the Tu-160, certain avionics such as the radar will be based on those developed for the PAK FA project. A 2016 report mentions an expected 30-ton weapons payload, a range of 6,740 nautical miles, the first flight in 2021 and deliveries in 2023. On 1 March 2017, it was reported that the first full-scale model of the PAK DA was built, amongst various smaller-scale ones of various configurations, while confirming that its form is that of a flying wing and that emphasis has been put on the Low-Observability (Stealth) characteristics of the aircraft.

Russia to start mass production of advanced Kurganets-25 combat vehicles in 2021

Russia will start the mass production of the advanced Kurganets-25 combat vehicles in 2021, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Yury Borisov said April 26, 2017.

“Serial production will start in 2021, but that does not mean that we abandoned it.We have time to identify all the bottlenecks, test them, hedge all the technical risks associated with engine development, with automatic transmission, sighting systems, said Yury Borisov.

The Kurganets-25 is a new Russian tracked, 25-ton modular platform being developed for the Russian Army. The Kurganets-25 will have modular armor that can be upgraded for specific threats.

There are two versions of the vehicle: a heavily armed infantry fighting vehicle carrying 6-7 troops; and a lightly armed APC carrying eight troops. Other variants proposed for the Kurganets include an armored ambulance, an 82 mm Vasilek mortar carrier, anti-tank vehicle, armored recovery vehicle, a reconnaissance vehicle, a command vehicle, and an armored engineering vehicle.

Ka-52K undertakes sea trials

The Kamov Ka-52K naval attack helicopter has completed a first phase of testing in marine conditions.

Two Ka-52Ks – dedicated maritime versions of the land-based Ka-52 Hokum – were tested from late 2016 until early 2017.

According to Rostec State Corporation, which is responsible for the manufacturer Russian Helicopters, the aircraft used in the trials are now being examined at the Kamov Design Bureau. The design authority will check the airframes and components for wear and tear after the operations in harsh climates.

“Ka-52K helicopters completed the first phase of testing in marine conditions, after which it can be concluded that the machines may be placed on an aircraft cruiser and successfully complete their tasks,” said Vladislav Savelyev, Deputy CEO for Sales at Russian Helicopters.

“The helicopter has unique properties; however, one test in the sea is insufficient for understanding the work of its engines, units, avionics, control and armament systems in maritime climate,” continued Savelyev. “The design bureau will continue its work as part of tests including those on the aircraft cruiser.”

In Russian parlance, an aircraft cruiser describes an aircraft carrier, i.e. the Admiral Kuznetsov. Last year, Ka-52s conducted combat trials over Syria, flying from the carrier in the eastern Mediterranean.

Compared to the land-based Ka-52, the Ka-52K has shorter folding wings which have been redesigned to carry heavy weapons, and a blade-folding mechanism for stowage in the hold. The Ka-52K also incorporates maritime rescue equipment and corrosion-resistant materials. The helicopter has a single-point fuelling system and an upgraded air conditioning system that is integrated with the immersion suits of the two crew members. Other maritime-specific features include a short-range radio navigation system.

Comments: This shows that the current 971 projects can not fire this missile. The Bratsk and Samara could be destined for the Pacific fleet, from which they originate. The Bratsk was originally a Mod 12 version, the others being Mod 2 version. Finally, Sputnik had incorrectly identified the Leopard as the K-238
