My guess is that a few of them have continued use. But the 90s, and the first half of the 2000s (at least) I bet they were tied up at dock for the most part.

So, maybe 15 years service on them.

Now, if they were left in a poor state of maintenance those years they were at dock (which is very possible), they may not be in good shape at all.

I will research and see how many of them are still active and see if I can find out about their individual history.

Good read. The turret might also get that additional ERA placed by the time of Victory parade on May 9th and might look similar to the model displayed.

In the T-14 "Armata" used the best of the former Russian developments, such as the T-95 (Object 195) and T-90cm. Such a conclusion can be made acquainted with the regular portion of the photos of the newest machines that are located

Turret well sheltered from prying eyes tarpaulin and that under it, we can only guess. Although the stern you can see the outlines of a well-developed niche. Some military experts allege that the "box" on a design similar to what is available on T-90cm. There is placed in isolation of ammunition.
The most optimistic experts hope that the compartment with ammunition is an element of double-beam automatic loader, a variant of which was tested for the combat module "Burlak" which, in turn, is a close "relative" autoloader tank Object 640 "Black Eagle", however, Omsk in this machine all the ammunition was supposed to be in a niche of the tower.

Of course, the double-beam machine has a big advantage, all the ammunition mechanized, but it is quite complicated, takes a larger internal volume, and therefore more expensive. Besides, does not provide complete isolation of ammunition in a niche of the crew compartment, with all its consequences for the vitality of the tank. Storage of ammunition in isolation also has disadvantages, after discharging ammunition in the autoloader, you need to go out of the battle for reloading. But we do not yet know how many shells in the pipeline. In any case, be sure to take into account the experience of the designers of local wars and conflicts, and did everything to make the process of "getting your" tank ammunition was as fast as possible.

You can also see that the tower or, as they say pro dome crowns certain design, which apparently is an improved version of the panorama, similar to that available on T-90cm. She is known to be interfaced with a machine gun mount.

The upper frontal body part indicates the most powerful crew protection against attacks by beating direct fire. Very carefully covered cables are mine electromagnetic protection.
Ahead visible device driver, which again resembles the set on the T-90cm. It was reported that he has a television and teplovizionnny channels, which form complexes with the image on the monitor, there may also receives information from a video camera mounted at the stern. On the "Armata" innovation are even lights that LED.

The crew capsule is the same as in the object 195, however, when compared with photos of his elder brother "Almaty was" that appeared on the network, then the T-14, a wide range of devices targeting, which is likely to have protection from lasers.

In contrast, T-95 and T-90 cm, and CAO from "Coalition CB" new tank on rollers applied on the T-80 type. These rollers lighter compared to traditional Nizhnetagilskim that saves the total weight of the machine. Characteristically, in due time, in Kharkov after much research decided to install on your future tanks object 477A is St. Petersburg rollers, which, I must say, in the Russian army used a large number of combat and auxiliary equipment.

Very pleased enough powerful armor protection board that, in general, repeating what has to "set for battle in" T-72 tank, this development was first shown two years ago at an exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. Latticed screens in the feed are similar to those that are installed on the T-90cm. In contrast to the Object 195, the exhaust device placed on the sides. This will greatly facilitate the action of infantry, which will cover in battle armor tank.

Of course, despite the new leak of photographs, "Armata" has not yet disclosed the most of their secrets and therefore "Oh, how wonderful discoveries we" have yet to be.

TerraN, can you tell what is this part marked in front of his AK for?

dwikqwga7ue2.jpg

It seems to be attached to the rail interface mount for an grenade launcher or bipod?

Thank you in advance

Sorry to have caught this rather late. It's not a Grenade launcher mount.
The Russian under barrel Grenade launcher series the GP25-GP30-GP34.. and the BS-1 "Silent" grenade launcher would be impeaded by that device as it blocks the bayonet lug which is used as part of the mounting system much like on the American M203 the mounting on this is way to flimsy to mount even a low recoil grenade launcher.
but it is a mounting bracket.
For a tactical flashlight. the light would be about the size of a pistol light and mounts under the barrel on the forward end.
Russia Sets Sights on High-Speed Development

MOSCOW — Russia's helicopter industry, shepherded by Russian Helicopters — last year the world's largest helicopter exporter — has its eyes set on competing in the emerging market of high-speed helicopters.

Last year, Yury Slyuzar, Russia's former deputy industry and trade minister, announced that Russian Helicopters would be leading the design of a new high-speed helicopter. Though details remain scant, a concept for the vehicle is expected to be unveiled this year, according Russian aviation publication ATO.ru.

In May, ATO.ru quoted Russian Helicopters chief Alexander Mikheyev as saying that "the [target maximum] speed has not been defined yet," but that the helicopter should cruise at more than 400 kilometers an hour (249 miles per hour).

Russian Helicopters is pitching the project as an ideal VIP transport, though military applications are also being considered. The vehicle is expected to be certified by 2020 and its development is expected to cost about 7.5 billion rubles (US $121.5 million).

Russian Helicopters did not respond to a request to clarify the status of the development project, but Russian aviation analyst Oleg Panteleyev told Defense News that "work is currently continuing on the development of a flying laboratory [demonstrator]," adding that the ultimate goal is to develop a set of technologies that will ensure parity, if not superiority over competition.

Right now, the competition seems to be Sikorsky, which last year unveiled its S-97 Raider helicopter, which can cruise at speeds of 254 miles per hour.

"At the same time, the work to formulate a specific product for the market has not begun," Panteleyev said. "Helicopter operators have no real interest in high-speed machines … high speed still comes with a high price."

Nonetheless, Russian Helicopters has said a prototype will be ready to fly by 2020, and will be built on a Mil Mi-24 test bed. According to official company literature on the program, the first stage of the development program will focus on attaining cruising speeds of 217 miles per hour.

Beyond high-profile development projects, much of Russia's efforts in the field of helicopter technology is focused on shoring up the production base, substituting imports of valuable components built beyond Russia's borders in the former Soviet Union, and modernizing tried-and-true Soviet designs for the Russian military and for export customers.

Vladimir Putin OKs sale to Iran's air defense system S-300. The transaction will be imminent

Fai0te5.jpg

(Defensa.com) Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree allowing the export of air defense system long-range S-300 to Iran on Monday. Recall that Russia had to cancel in 2010 the sale to Iran of this advanced defense system due to sanctions imposed by the United Nations. The Kremlin own webpage you can access the decree on the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolution, which have been included amendments that allow this transaction. After the announcement of this measure, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the operation with Iran is "imminent".

In recent years, the Russian government has used the possible sale of this system to Iran as leverage in several diplomatic clashes with Western powers. However cancellation supply in 2010 cost the Russian company Rosoboronexport to Iran turned to the Court of Arbitration in Geneva for breach of contract. More recently, in January of this year the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Iran where agreed with his Iranian counterpart signed a cooperation agreement which included the delivery of S-300.

The origin of this decision Vladimir Putin would be in the preliminary agreement that would have been reached regarding the Iranian nuclear program. The so-called sextet (United States, European Union, Russia, UK, Germany and France) reached an agreement with Iran last April 2 after finding substantial progress on regulation of the Iranian nuclear program. United States is in a difficult situation after this decision because Israel has pressured him to prevent delivery of this provision but after the company announced that the delivery of S-300 would not affect the principle according to which they have come. This is one of the issues discussed in the article "The unbalancing effect of Russian air defense systems last generation," published in the December issue of the journal FDS (Security and Defence Forces).

Borei Class

1sci77E.jpg

See how small the sail is compared to the rest of the boat.

Interesting. Where is it? there are hills in the background, so it couldn't be at Severodvinsk...right?

BTW: The length of Borey is refered as 170m
In all google earth images you can measure about 158m! Try to do it in Severodvinsk (use also History layer) in Severomorsk and Nerpicha. And measure other ships near by (they match more or less their specifications).

Here is what I mean

Any ideas?
