On December 17, 2025, speaking at a meeting of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Minister Andrei Belousov announced the transfer of two Tu-160M strategic bombers to the Aerospace Forces' Long-Range Aviation in 2025. The Tu-160M is equipped with NK-32-02 engines manufactured by UEC-Kuznetsov (Samara). These engines provide improved fuel efficiency and thrust at cruising speeds and high altitudes, specifically increasing the maximum flight speed from 2,200 to 2,400 km/h at altitudes of 10,500-12,500 m.
The upgraded onboard electronic equipment includes the Novella NV1.70 multi-mode radar system (manufactured by Zaslon), the Himalayas multi-band electronic warfare system, the Redut-70M onboard defense system, and the NO-70M navigation system. The control and navigation system includes the S-505-70 secure communications system, the ABSU-200MT autopilot, the BINS-SP-1 strapdown inertial navigation system, the ANS-2009M celestial navigation system, and the A737DP radio navigation receiver.
