US analysts claim Russian artillery shell production has peaked and now the US will surpass it thanks to new production facilities being built in the US which will start operating next year. But the Russians aren't standing still either.
Kalashnikov is increasing its high-precision capabilities
21 February 2024
The first section of the new heat treatment shop, opened at the Kalashnikov concern plant in Izhevsk, is ready for operation as part of the expansion of the production of high-precision products.
There is a new workshop with an area of 2000 sq.m. designed for the installation of more than 20 vacuum and tempering furnaces for heat treatment of blanks for future projectile parts. All equipment is equipped with modern software, which allows you to automate the heat treatment process and more accurately control its parameters. This will improve the quality of products.
The increase in production volumes is associated with a multiple increase in the government contract this year. Alan Lushnikov, President of Kalashnikov Concern JSC, spoke about this at a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The head of the military department focused the attention of the enterprise management on the demand for anti-aircraft guided missiles. According to him, this is an extremely important and necessary product for the protection of critical infrastructure facilities of the Russian economy.
At the Kalashnikov plant, this is already the third section launched in high-precision production since last year.
Earlier, for the production of artillery ammunition in the special equipment production division, a new mechanical section with 80 milling and turning machines was put into operation, thanks to which more than 160 jobs appeared at the plant, and over two hundred more will appear in the near future.
