Very nice pics.

Let's give some context to these photos so nobody get's the mistaken impression (since this thread is about Russian Flankers) these were Russian aircraft buzzing a US carrier.

Those pictures were from the visit to Malaysia in October 2012 by the USS George Washington carrier strike group, and the goodwill visit and exercises that accompanied it.

The four flight formation of two SU-30MKMs and two US Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets was arranged as a part of those exercises.

It was quite the photo Op.

The pics were posted by the US Navy in 2012 with this caption:

One of SD's rules (which is easy to forget...but enforced none-the-less), is to post an explanation or caption of some type with the pictures we post. Please keep that in mind in the future.

Here's another picture from those exercises:

The detail on that very high res photo is great...and makes the markings very clear.

Sorry, yes they pictures are from that exercise, for me it is easy to see they are not russian flankers because Russia uses another camouflage, but you are right people might get confuse, sorry.

These for example are typical Su-30SM

...it is like the marriage of YF-23 and Su-27. the love child of the Y-23 and Su-35.
IMHO, the YF-23 was the best pure 5th generation stealth fighter yet designed. It gave up maneuverability and pure handling to the F-22, but in terms of a pure, next generation stealth fighter, it has been the best.

Too bad the US did not find a place for it...yet.

There continues to be studies that would take its design and make an even more modern and advanced...and larger... Strike Aircraft out of it, which I believe would be an excellent choice.

Whether it will ever materialze or not...cannot say, but it would be nice.

I watch a video about it on youtube, i think you still have one aircraft in a museum, it was a nice looking aircraft

All aircraft are beautiful if you understand their time frame and philosophy, F-16 and F-15 are beautiful too.

If i see these pictures you might pick a fighter, i like this picture because in it you can see sizes, but i love the F-16 and F-15, it is a pity they are machines of war, the F-15 is a very beautiful aircraft too, all aircraft are kind of beautiful, preferences are given by personal taste

Actually, F-15, both of the two YF-23 prototypes (that's all that were ever built) are on display in Museums.

The first prototype, YF-23 PAV-1, in on display at the National US Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio.

The second prototype, YF-23A, PAV-2, is on display at the Western Museum of flight at Torrance, California.

Here's a few more YF-23 pics...and then I'll really stop the off-topic:

they are not RD-33, but Al-31
Su-33s

This is my favorite Su-33 i love this swollen head Flanker
Ah yes. The SU-33KUB...or some call it the SU-27KUB, but I believe that is incorrect.

Looks very much like an SU-34, but with a tail hook, and without the large APU/Stinger of the SU-34...and I am sure a lot of other electronic, fuel, etc. differences.

The Su-33KUB was meant to be a trainer...with a potential for later EW and strike roles off of the carrier.

I believe they only built a couple of them...and with the retirement of the US-33s looming and the switchover to Mig-29Ks coming for the carrier...I wonder if anything will ever come of the larger flanker now.

Anyhow, you will like this video. It is one of my favorites. It shows the quals aboard the Kuznetsov with ramp takeoffs from both long and short positions, and arrested landings on the carrier.
