The high interest rates are bungling everything. You get more expensive consumer credit so people stop buying durable goods. Which means you need less production of them. Which means it makes no sense to spend a lot of resources to automate production for large volumes. In time factories would close down due to lack of demand.

Thankfully the RCB finally started cutting the interest rate.

Kovalchuk said that the successes of scientists who returned to Russia from CERN strengthen the country's position

MOSCOW, May 30. /TASS/. Russian scientists who have ceased cooperation with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and returned to Russia receive scientific results that compete with the conclusions of the CERN teams. This was stated by the president of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" Mikhail Kovalchuk.

A significant part of the CERN experiments was once carried out by Russian specialists, he noted.

"Our scientists are back < ... > back, enriched with common experience and best practices. <… >We are now getting results that already compete with CERN," Kovalchuk said, speaking at the scientific forum "Academic Partnership for Peace, Mutual Development and Prosperity", held in Moscow as part of a two-day meeting of the heads of the BRICS academies of sciences.

The scientist also pointed out that Russia has financed international European scientific projects, of which it is a participant, in the amount of more than € 2 billion. TASS). Despite the sanctions, everything else, in fact, the only real money that is there is Russian," he added.

Hadron Collider in Russia: Why NICA, Where is it and What is it for?

What else can the Russian collider do?

In addition to fundamental research, various applied experiments are also carried out at the NICA hadron collider:

  • Testing microcircuits for spacecraft. Ions present in cosmic rays can adversely affect spacecraft electronics. NICA is used to test microcircuits and assess their resistance to ion exposure.
  • Study of radiation effects on living organisms. Research at the Russian NICA allows us to assess the effects of radiation on humans and biological objects, which is important for protecting astronauts and designing safe space flight systems.
  • Research in other fields. When not colliding particles, the collider is planned to be used for research in nuclear energy, biology and materials science.
A comprehensive understanding of the properties and behavior of matter is critical to advancing our knowledge of the Universe, developing new technologies, and improving the health and well-being of humanity.

Mathematician returns from Germany to Russia: "There is a unique atmosphere here"

MOSCOW, July 9, FederalPress. Scientists who have been conducting scientific work abroad for a long time continue to return to Russia. One of them is Vladimir Spokoiny, who heads the Laboratory of Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence Models (TOMII) at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Sciences of the Faculty of Computer Science. He left for Germany two years after the collapse of the USSR and returned in 2025.

According to him, the return had been planned for a long time, and when the scientist was offered to work at the HSE, he hardly hesitated.

“A unique atmosphere has been created here for the implementation of ambitious plans and the introduction of innovative solutions,” Spokoiny said.
The scientist said that he had been involved in various Russian projects since 2011. He emphasized that the research sector in our country is developing dynamically. Young specialists in science follow advanced trends. Spokoiny is confident that there is practically no lag behind global trends.

The return of minds. Artem Oganov: Now it has become interesting to work in Russia

Manycolleagues in Russia and abroad believe that crystallographer Artyom Oganov is the most likely candidate from our country to receive the Nobel Prize in the near future. Why did a brilliant materials scientist, who is in demand at many American and European universities, create a laboratory at MIPT? What is the difference between the generations of students of the 1990s and 2000s from today's students? And how can Russian science be made truly strong and competitive on the world stage?
Artem Oganov, Head of the Laboratory of Computer-Aided Design of Materials at MIPT, Professor at Skoltech.

Field of research: crystallography and materials science.

Where he returned from: State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Who works in my laboratory?
Now the situation is completely different. Three years ago, I created a laboratory at Phystech, and there are a huge number of talented people here. I looked for such people all over the world when I lived in the West. Here you can now find such people if they are offered normal working conditions. So it has become interesting to work in Russia now, and, from my point of view, this is the most important change in Russian science.
Since Science is developing rapidly they want greater control.

Russia and China to determine timing and financing scheme for Power of Siberia 2 next year
Moscow. September 4. INTERFAX.RU - Russia and China have signed a binding memorandum on the project to build the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline with a capacity of 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The project has been completed at the preliminary feasibility study level, and now the project financing scheme and other issues need to be quickly finalized, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev told journalists on the sidelines of the Vladivostok Economic Forum (VEF).

"The signed memorandum takes into account the main parameters, it will pass through Mongolia and the volume of supplies is 50 billion cubic meters per year. The project is very complex, it will require the construction of large pipeline lines, so now we will move on to active work on finalizing this project, and then we will be able to talk specifically about the timing and finances of this project. So far, this has all been done at the pre-feasibility study level," he said.

Now we will have to work out the financing schemes and everything else ( the rest - IF ). Without signing this memorandum, further work would have been impossible. Now we have freedom of action, we have been given permission, so we will quickly finalize this scheme," the minister said, noting that the scheme could be developed next year.

Tsivilev also reported that “design work is underway” to increase the capacity of the already built Power of Siberia gas pipeline from 38 to 44 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which was agreed upon during the recent visit to China.

"Project work to increase capacity is currently underway. Once it is completed, we will name specific deadlines. For now, the project capacity is fixed at 38 billion; to reach the level of 44, additional changes will need to be made to the project," he noted.

He also recalled that a decision had been made to increase gas supplies via the Far Eastern route under construction from 10 to 12 billion cubic meters per year.

If Russia and China actually work out a more robust method of RMB settlement via CIPS and what not, it would greatly alleviate inflationary pressure on Russia's economy. Which would allow a more rapid rate drop.

Yes the payment mechanisms need to be improved, as do the transportation methods.

I just read another dumb Western analyst comment about how Russia will need Chinese loans to build Power of Siberia 2. As if Russia cannot build steel pipes and gas compressor turbines itself. They said the same things when Power of Siberia 1 was announced. These people never learn.

Russia is spending more building the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey and that actually requires paying people in foreign currency.

How many years would it take to build PoS2? It would seem yo be something quite fast as the pipeline can be laid down in parallel.

My understanding is that the gas that are not sold to europe are just lost as you cant really shut down a natural gas field?

Laying the pipeline more in parallel allows you to finish it faster and get revenue earlier. But it costs more in manpower and machines.

As for how long it will take it depends on a lot of things. The Yamal pipeline took 12 years from start of construction to reach full capacity. The Power of Siberia was 5 years to first gas and 10 years to reach full capacity.

My understanding is that the gas that are not sold to europe are just lost as you cant really shut down a natural gas field?
You can throttle it a bit. Shutting it down is possible, it might make it hard or impossible to restart it, but it depends on the well I think.
Russia increased its exports to former Soviet Union countries and cut production a bit.

First Production SJ-100 Aircraft Completes Maiden Flight

05.09.2025

The first production SJ-100 regional jet (serial number 97004, registration 97024) successfully completed its maiden flight at the Dzyomgi airfield, part of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant. The aircraft was manufactured at the Production Center of the “Regional Aircraft” Branch of Yakovlev PJSC and is fully equipped with Russian-made systems, including PD-8 engines, according to the United Aircraft Corporation.

The flight was conducted by the Flight Test Center crew, consisting of Yakovlev PJSC test pilots—Captain Dmitry Savonin and Leonid Chikunov—and lead flight test engineer Vladislav Tyurin, who served as flight operator. The flight lasted approximately 60 minutes, during which the Superjet reached an altitude of 10,000 feet. The crew evaluated the performance of onboard systems and components under various operating conditions.

“All flight objectives were met, and all aircraft systems operated nominally. The crew reached both minimum and maximum speeds and an altitude of 10,000 feet. No discrepancies were reported. The aircraft demonstrated stable handling and was comfortable to operate. The engines performed reliably across all tested throttle settings and acceleration modes. The entire crew was satisfied with the flight,” commented Captain Dmitry Savonin after landing.

Andrey Soynov, Director of the Production Center at Yakovlev PJSC, noted that the final assembly shop at Komsomolsk-on-Amur is currently undergoing reconstruction, with a new assembly line being established in parallel. “Twenty-four aircraft are at various stages of completion, and this is the first to launch the series. Today marks the beginning of flight testing for production aircraft. The new Superjet variant features not only Russian-made components but also significant upgrades to the plant’s technical infrastructure, replacing legacy imported equipment with domestic alternatives,” he said.

Soynov added that wing-to-fuselage mating is performed on a Russian-built assembly jig. A backlog of production aircraft is being formed to ensure rapid deliveries to airlines following certification.

“The SJ-100 import substitution program is entering the serial production phase. The program team, which includes over 140 first-tier suppliers, has worked intensively to bring the first aircraft built with production technologies to flight,” stated Alexander Dolotovsky, Director of the “Regional Aircraft” Branch at Yakovlev PJSC.

Transitioning the SJ-100 to domestic components is the result of extensive modernization of the SSJ100 airframe and manufacturing processes at Yakovlev’s Production Center and partner facilities. The import substitution program has replaced 64 key systems and components, achieving 70–80% localization. Russian-made avionics, landing gear, auxiliary power unit, flight control systems, electrical power supply, air conditioning, fire protection, passenger cabin interior, and other systems have been installed.

“Fuselage and airframe modifications enabled integration of new systems and simplified aircraft maintenance. Production is based on standardized design documentation, ensuring component unification and reduced assembly time,” the United Aircraft Corporation press office reported.

With limited access to foreign components, the import substitution program is critical for maintaining and developing industry expertise and supporting the domestic fleet for internal air transport. Certification testing is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with deliveries to Russian operators scheduled to begin in spring 2026. The domestically produced Superjet 100 will strengthen Russia’s position in the domestic aviation market and enhance the industry’s technological independence.

"House of the Falcon": Birds sacred to the peoples of the Persian Gulf presented at the EEF

Maria Kulikova, Deputy Director of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment's Roszavodtsentr, Head of the Falcon House project : " It is forbidden to take them from the wild - it is a criminal offence. But in nurseries, birds born after the fourth generation can be sold. I may even be wrong about the number, but that's about it. When it is legalised, we thereby eradicate poaching and, it must be said, it is the Middle East that is most sensitive to the fact that all this is legalised ."

It is not difficult to understand the involvement of the Arab representatives. Among the peoples of the Persian Gulf, this bird is sacred. And it often acts as a spiritual companion for its owners. The Skol House, however, is not only dedicated to birds. Drawing attention to the issues of preserving endangered animals of the Far East as a whole is one of the important goals. The Red Book, the organizers say, is one of those that would do well to thin out.
