I was watching the latest “Moonshots” podcast where they talked about this T800 match and one of the talking heads mentioned they realized the significance of China’s approach to robots in contrast to the US/West where they think it’s all about doing tasks with the hands. All these acrobatics Chinese robots do that US robots don’t is all about engineering a robot to operate in an environment that includes balancing and stress factors where as US robots care only about how much the hands work. That's why no one should blindly follow the West's "narrow" focus.
Remember how the US use to brag how they were masters of software apps because they said that's what mattered while China was stuck in hardware. Now the West cries about how they don't have any manufacturing while China also has US beating AI. Or how before that how they said India was ahead of China because they were English-language proficient. Well the whole world is not English-only. That was also when they thought the Western technological standard was the only one that was important. No Indian is going to be translating Chinese into the Chinese technological ecology. Or how about how Western AI is all about achieving AGI human level of intelligence while China is already applying AI commercially where you don't need AI to be able to do everything.
I was listening to another podcast saying that Figure, Boston Dynamics, and Tesla are experiencing delays because their robots haven't gone through stress tests. They're so expensive that they haven't made many to see how long and which parts will last and they don't want to ship them out only to find out there's a problem that they have to recall and replace parts.

For anyone wondering, the robots in the fights were not teleoperated.
Indeed. Originally 80 some teams wanted to participate but only 30 made it when they mandated that the robots have to be completely automated.
