red dot aiming device?

At those heights (the installation and relation to his posture), he's using the iron sights.

As to the availability, those surely ain't adopted in China - targeting aid like such are new to the Chinese, and to be adopted by the PLA there must be locally produced equivalent. Not to mention there's no way the US would allow this to export en mass to China, eh?

The credibility of the pic is really questionable.

I cannot believe no-one has pointed this out already, but the PAP SWAT equivalent has been using holographic sights and even P90s and MP5s for quite some time now. Its hardly news as the first photos came out years ago and I have since stopped taking notice. I'm sure I've even seen pictures on this very forum before but cannot remember where exactly, so just for reference.

Hate to break it at you man, but look REALLY HARD at the badge, those ain't PAP SWAT, those are Beijing Police SWAT. You see, in major cities and those that got the budget to get better gears, that's what they do.

As for MP5 and P90, from that pic looks like at Beijing too, but most likely either limited "law enforcement" purchase for evaluation or just props / airsoft AEG for drills.

As far as I know, all SWAT are chosen from either the PAP or maybe even PLA units, so what is the point in this distinction? Does it matter in the slightest which city they come from? They are all still Chinese state security personnel. Surely you are not suggesting that the elite police forces of the Chinese capital are somehow separate from the Chinese government?

And this is based on what exactly? Surely not wishful thinking?

AFAIK, those SWAT with the P90 and MP5s were part of the Olympic security detail. But it makes no difference whether they were a special limited purchase evaluation or not. The important fact is that the PAP seem to be able to import the latest western small arms and optics as they please. This is backed up by the fact that the PLA sniper team that recently came 3rd in international competitions were using American made sniper rifles.

And none of this is news, as I have know about it for years, as I'm sure many others have as well.

The original picture looks pretty genuine, and is probably just the PLA playing around to see how the holographic sight work with all their rifles.

The fact that the soldier seems to be ignoring the optics and is using the iron sights either indicates a very poorly designed adaptor or one designed specifically to allow the retained use of iron sights.

Edit:

PS, if you look at the 3rd picture I posted, its hard to tell for sure, but the P90 looks like it has an ACOG scope attached.

Yes they all ultimately answer to the state, but they're with different chains of command, different budgets.

And you got the 3rd one wrong too, that's more look like an Aimpoint red-dot sight, ACOG is somewhat bigger.

And your point in raising this as a noteworthy distinction being?

And you got the 3rd one wrong too, that's more look like an Aimpoint red-dot sight, ACOG is somewhat bigger.

Well done, want a cookie?

As I said, its hard to tell, but you seem to can't see the forest for the trees with trying to stress this insignificant point.

I mean, its not like China makes Aimpoint red dots so those would have also had to be imported. Or was all this just so you can try and score some cheap points to suggest I was wrong? And where did this 'again' nonsense come from?

Anyways, I tire of this kind of childish bickering, so this will be my last post on this subject until there is something actually worth my time to respond to.

1. Your failure to understand that the police and the PAP are of different chains of command and different jurisdictions is your own, not mine, live with it or correct it yourselves...they all answer to the MPS (the PAP has to answer to the CMC too) but from there down it split into 2 different organ: PAP do paramilitary works and police do local security. If there're thugs too tough for the police to deal with, the PAP were called in for big guns; if it's deal with insurgents and terrorists, the PAP takes over; if there's riots and mass civil unrest, PAP deals with it; fire and rescue falls under PAP jurisdiction. Police take care of the rest.

Like I said before, some city's police department has more budgets allotted than the others and they get better gear, like they go "Christmas tree" on the Type 79 SMG with imported accessories.

2. Tidbits as it is, the difference between an Aimpoint and the ACOG is distinct enough to tell. Besides, to the Chinese community it's a known secret that police used props to stand in for non-firing drills, to save on the wear-and-tear of the real gear...though recently the Chongqing police SWAT spotted carrying a MP5, there has been sources that it was in fact a NR08 (Norinco's cheap knockoff of MP5) that the police department purchased a small batch for evaluation.

I've never seen this before...Is this a good knockoff at least?

look like small telescope for better LR snipping.
during the iraq invasion, I notice all US army M-16a1 were equip with similiar device .but as battle swing from open rural area to heavely populated urban area, they trade there telescope sight with red dot scope for close range shooting.
