chinese "kapustin yar - vladimirovka" test site: almost eighty on a newly built backyard. thought it was all junk for one-time remote control flying targets.

Two hundred pilotless kamikazes supported by a regiment of regular fighters will certainly overpass any AD and kill a carrier or devastate a city - in a war. But the question of peace time costs: expensive conversion, current maintenance compared to a manned fighter, regular flight checks, etc.? Better scrap, sell metals and buy something new instead.

A carrier will always be escorted by a multitude of escorting vessels in addition to having its own air wing. 200 slow-moving drones will easily be shot down with a combination of SAMs, AAMs and CIWSs.

Just a maybe silly question, but in mind of the new Textron AirLand Scorpion light attack, reconnaissance jet project I simply ask myself if such a type would not be a suitable successor to the Q-5 !??

The positioning of the air intake below but separate from the wing will cause increased drag, let's call it by its old name built in head wind.

The Scorpion is a attempt at a Lightweight Counter insurgency aircraft or COIN type these are gaining in popularity and fill a CAS notch . For the PLAAF such a type would be nice no doubt, but she would need long legs. her primary mission would have to be patrol along the inner land boarders particularly the troubled high altitude ranges of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. this means high altitude high fire power long range.
Scorpion might not be able to do that.
