How was the culinary skill on board compared with home cooking and your neighborhood diners? I ask because I'm into cookery and love watching Foodnetwork which features mostly American cuisines.

The food aboard ship varies according to who prepares it..It was Ok by me.

Nimitz by far had the best chow. JFK was second. Midway and America were about the same..mediocre. Hancock was bad. It just did not taste good.

How was the F4-B Phantom maintenance as compare to the F-14 Tomcat?

Both were maintenance intensive . BUT without a doubt Tomcats required more maintenance to keep 'em flying. Bar none.

Well thank you my brother, what a wonderful story, well lived and well told. Reminds me of some of those great flying stories my Dad and his Friends used to tell. Just love to hear history in the first person, thanks for sharing and thanks for being here for us tonight. brat

Popeye, I love to see the pics from the 70s through the 80s and 90s. Brings back lots of memories. Seeing the development of those air wings, and the people like yourself who maintained and worked on the.

Great stories...and you really should consider making an actual book.

Or something like that. I would be happy to help you gratis if you ever wanted to do so. Something like that could really help encourage other young men to join the Navy and see the world.

I've not been following the thread from the beginning of Popeye's many voyages, but I'm keen to read about the his anecdotes of r&r experience after the fleet pull up at ports. Food, shopping....etc.
