30% of the reading space on the left has been taken away from us members on the new layout. I alway find myself scrolling down now.

I'm thinking it was done because most people still don't have widescreen monitors or something. I doubt it will be reverted back to the widescreen.

I have a widescreen myself, so I was just starting to adjust to all the new room when it suddenly became narrow like this again...

Well, you should see some improvement with username bar on top of the user's reply/post rather than on side. People will have to scroll when browsing any website, there is no way to eliminate that.

As far as the narrower width, it was done to keep the user focused, keep the forum compact and tidy. On large screens and resolution, the "wide" width goes all way across the screen and its hard to read like that.

I didn't have any problems focusing, but I understand and accept the logic behind narrowing it down.

Speaking of focus and tidiness, wouldn't it be easier to browse a thread if the username bar were back on the side? That way the thread wouldn't seem as vertically cluttered which helps with the tidiness, and the reader's eyes wouldn't have to "jump" so much, helping with focus. To illustrate,

instead of

username bar
post
username bar
post
username bar
post
username bar
post
username bar
post

it would just be

post
post
post
post
post
post
post

I think that would flow a lot better.
