If this is true, I wonder if the PLAN has also run newer subs like the Yuan or Shang near our carriers?
PLAN sub appears close to the USS Kitty Hawk again?

It's been my experience when the USN has made a mistake or be embarrased in some way they will hedge a couple of days to get the story correct or put their own spin on the story.
Now if an accident had occuried you would hear the story almost immediatley. Espically if there was loss of life.
If this story of the PLAN once again stalking CV-63 is true it would be a great embarrasment to the USN.
I'm still waiting for the USN to say anything about this incident.

Rumor from CDF says this was a rehash of the previous incident insidiously planted in the news by Lockeed Martin in support of some P-3 related thingy in the recent appropriations session in Congress. The timing, lack of date, lack of citation of previous incident all support this.

Makes me think...
The PLA just lauded a sub commander of the East Seas Fleet for penetrating escorts against a naval task force in a training exercise late fall. Seems like a remarkable coincidence. But it does appear there are pictures of the PLAN conducting an ASW exercise. Both info courtesy of the CDF.

It seems you may be right Google "uss kitty hawk and Chinese sub" and several folks are screaming that this is recycled.

More likely China is more capable than some think and the US is not as invulnerable as advertised.

Or the weaknesses of the USN are being overexaggerated and the submarine was lucky to pull this off last year - i.e. it couldn't repeat it.
