Not really un-common. Coral sands are white in color and are very fine in size, in fact powder like.

On the other hand, Sands high in silica are yellow/ golden in color. The beach at my hometown is yellow gold color made up of 0.5mm to >1mm size sand.

Looks like there is a reservoir or water storage facility next to the runway on the north side.

Perhaps, this is in anticipation of an increase in population on the island.

Land reclamation increases Woody Island's size by 40%

Aerial photos show the size of Woody (Yongxing) Island has increased by 40% since last year, with land reclamation, reports Shanghai's Guancha Syndicate.

Rocky island, located north of the island, is now merged with Woody island. The airstrip length has increased from 2.7 km to 3.0 km.
