The Italian Horizon classs DDGs are very capable, modern, stealthy destroyers.

But they only built two of them!
They have since been building a lot more FREMM FFGs which are equally modern and capable.
But with the Italians having two carriers and several LPDs, IMHO, the need more than two very modern and very capable multi-purpose air-defense destroyers.

Agreed but in peace time maybe they sail unarmed but could easily be lightly armed in wartime

I find that the Somalia pirates unintentionally provided a stage for the major and regional powers to shuffle cards. Without the piracy, the shuffling will certainly happen in other forms, but the piracy drama is one of the most convenient platform, the convenience is that people can play guns with smiling faces.
