common you dont need a 180 ton fridge to test some river water this could be a disguse for large equipment to be instled on the varyag such as engine

That's what I'm thinking too. I mean, how can anyone possibly test any river with a refrigerater that big?? I believe it has military uses. My guess is that it is used to store weapons. Some secret weapon that the PLA does not want the rest the world to know about.

Large but not as large as those containers pictured. The ones on a carrier are more square than that.

I just wish we could find something out about the ship. I never did get an answer back from Dailan..

First of all i am a big fan of this thread and the sinodefence website. My question is, how soon will this thing be up abd running? And is the new paint the only evidence that the Varyag is going ot be reacirvated?

Good question, and one that I doubt anyone can answer with total confidence. As has been pointed out, work has been put into it for some as-of-yet unconfirmed reason. So it's getting there, but until we know where "there" is I don't think we can really answer your question.

Though if anyone wants to speculate on a "ready date" then I won't hold it against them if they're wrong

I will. The PLAN will have that ship to sea before the 2008 Olympics begin. That's my best guess....Too bad we don't have some one at the shipyard. Oh well we can dream can't we???

hehehe, looks like I will have to take a trip to Dalian this summer when I go visit my relatives in China. I would think Varyag should be sailing off the port sometimes this year.

I think this is little too ambitous, but we never know. But the biggest obstacle still remain the engine, I just don't see where china can get an good engine.

I think the amount of time it will take for the Chinese to get this carrier to sea will probably tkae the sma eamount of time it took the Russians to get their Kuzetnov to sea. How long did that take?

P.S. I think they might name the carrier after Mao.

Take a friggin' camera!!!. One of those disposable ones. That way you can get rid of it if the situation arises...I am not kidding
