Besides HMS, do you guys believe a VDS +TAS+TAD setup is more capable than a VDS+2 TAS cables? I'm not aware if the latter is even used in other ships.
The LCS's ASW module and Type 45's SSTD system shares the same VDS+TAS+TAD setup in younger 054A hulls. With the LCS's light weight tow described as an acoustic countermeasure if an torpedo is detected, or when the vessel is sub-hunting and uses it active sonar components on its VDS & HMS.
Because 052C's TAD opening is on its port side, and we know 052D's TAS occupy the new one right next to its large VDS port, my bet is 052D's TAD is still there and hasn't changed location from 052C, and when the new 054As adopts this VDS +TAS+TAD transom arrangement.
If 052D is as configured, then a lot more care is needed to assess the transom ports for the ASW suite on new ships like Type 055, if their shapes and design keep changing.
Basic 054A's TAD position, which hasn't changed for those equipped with VDS, and adopted by 052C and should be the same for 052D.

It's a solid guide on the types of towed arrays operated by the PLAN before 052D.
