PLAN Anti-ship/surface missiles

No, it the presentation and article indicates that there were rumors it was a faster than sound missile, but it has been clearly shown to be not so.

The final table in the presentation (next to last page), and in the article plainly states that the speed is .8-.9 mach, not mach 1.3 in the least.

Is your presentation authentic? You are so sure of its speed? From which source?

In reference to the comment on the torpedo launch tube length, there should not be any reason it should be dependent on the length of the type of torpedo to be used on the submarine. If they've expectation to upgrade to a slightly larger and longer ASCM, there shouldn't be any problem to lengthen the torpedo launch tube by a metre or more, even if the length is much more than what is required for the type of torpedo.

There has never been any real evidence that YJ-83 is supersonic at any point in its flight path. And the presentation does a good explanation of why. It's okay though, something like YJ-83 is small, can fly low and be launched in much greater numbers. It's the ideal missile for PLAN.

From a number of PLA sponsor monthly magazine, YJ-83 was quote at speed 1.3M in final terminal stage. I have to admit YJ-83 in terms of aerodynamic is not the most efficient for supersonic flight. But that might be the reason for the longer size to hold more powerful boaster in order for it to hit the supersonic mark.

I agree that China probably sought Exocets, but no evidence exists of them having acquired one.

REad the presentation that this whole thread is based on...that presentation is from this article. This thread is about an artcile that has multiple references. You can read it and read the sources yourself.

The YJ-83 is simply not desinged to be, and has not been stated by the Chinese PLAN or government to be supersonic.

As I said, the article that this thread is based upon and to which Tphuang linked is at the very start of this thread. There are three parts and the bibilography is in the 3rd part at the link provided.

Some confusion as to what it is. New target drone? New '3M-54 Klub' type anti-ship missile? Superman?

Could be a supersonic target drone used to simulate an attacking missile. You know, the kind the PLAN might test/validate their 1130 CIWS system on.
